Hey guys, help me build a v6
Hey guys, My friend has an 85 2.8L and wanted to swap in a v8 but i convinced him to build a 3.4L or 3.1L. He doesnt want max performance just more grunt for his daily driver.
So far I figure we can grab a low mileage block from the junkyard so we dont have to rip into the bearings.
Then heads .. We could get some 3.4L heads and have them rebuilt with new guides , seals, springs ect. Maybe port em a bit.
We could grab a new camshaft too but what one do you guys reccomend?
Heres the next dilemma... MPFI or 4bbl? I personally like carbs better, but i think the FI is more daily driver friendly.
For an exhaust i figre the new pacesetter headers/y pipe with a high flow cat and dynomax catback.
Hows that sound guys?

as far as building a good 3.4 block read my post a bit down the page, its got tons of good info in it
heres the link
https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...hreadid=254501
i'm doing a daily driver as well heres a list of things i'm using to build my 3.4
ported intake, plenum, and heads flow tested and matched(done profesionally)
crane hydraulic cam specs 450 in 480 ex
hydraulic lifters
crane gold rockers 1.6
measure the lenght needed for pushrods and get them in chromoly
forged pistons
cloyes adjustable timing chain
airtex hiflow waterpump
3.4L oil pump (stock variety)
new springs and retainers (your choice)
going to be getting the piston crowns & head chambers & valves thermal coated
and the injectors are the stock 3.4 variety, when the motor gets assembled (not yet) i will send them out for cleaning to cruizin performance

There is a sticky at the near the top of the forum. see that.
My cardomain site has a lot of goodies and tips for building heads and valve train for a nice little V6.
You don't have to go as far as I did for a strong daily driver.
You will want to toss the stock cam fist off.
If you ported the heads that would help that little engine a lot, more that any one thing.
If your just building a strong dd than you can keep most of the fuel injection stock and make it work for your car no problem.

Sound like a plan! With a 3.4, Cam, hedders and porting, it'll be MUCH quicker than before. Start working on the bottom end and things get even better (high compression pistons, forged rods). Top it off with a little 50 shot (for close encounters), he should have no problem with most street cars (with the excetion of cam heads cars of the V8 variety and the all mighty Ls1) I'll put it like this, he'll never see what a Honduh's tailights look like.
