timing chain and engine oil

timing chain and engine oil

can i use a cloyes double roller timing chain with my stock valvetrain? also im changing my oil tommorow i got a k&n oil filter and royal purple oil do you recommaned useing lucus additive with royal purple?

Yep; I've got the same timing chain, and my valvetrain is stock. Follow the directions on the box tho- you can't use the factory tensioner (rubber-covered metal "V" between the cam gear and crank gear) with that chain. I kept my tensioner; it's somewhere in the basement.

As to additives; I don't like using 'em- I used to be a diehard Slick-50 user- I put that $20 bottle in with every oil change! Then I found out how teflon can clog oil filters and build up in engine oil passageways, so I stopped using it, and havent' used it since. That was, oh, I guess in 1995 or so? Now the same motor has 272,000 miles on it, so I wouldn't really recommend oil additives. Regular oil changes is the way to go.
