Yeah, first race in the turbo!!

On the way home from work, I finally get to race someone in the turbo V6. Cruising along SR 326, about 60mph, when I notice what appears to be a 3G Eclipse ('99+? The new style) and he/she speeds up, and prepares to go around me. Now, this is about a 2 mile stretch of cow pasture, 2 lane road. I'm like "WTF. I'm not gonna get passed my an Eclipse!" so I drop 3rd, and go. The 3G Eclipse obviously has the roll, so it's gaining - 7psi, 4500 rpm, and I start to pull away. Pisses off the Eclipse, and I'm thinking 'Damn... I really thought I'd have more than enough to put down a stinkin' Eclipse.' Keep in mind, I've still not tuned enough to get rid of the upper RPM miss I'm still dealing with, so I figure - eh, still more tuning to do.

Anyway, we both run till 4100rpm in 5th for me, then the Eclipse backs off, but I just kind of coast ahead anyway - my turn is coming up.

Yeah, so I turn off, and it wasn't an Eclipse.

IT WAS A FRIGGEN 350Z!!

First kill in the turbo - 350z. More tuning still to come.

Let me get this straight, you outgunned Nissan 350Z that allready had a run on you? Then you topended him in the same race? Dude, that totally kicks ***!!

Lets everyone throw one up for the battle of domestic vs import!!
:hail:  :hail:  :hail:  :hail:

Get all that tuning squared away and then lets see what ALL its got.

Yeah. I damn near pulled over and did a happy dance when I saw the guy speed away after I made my turn, and saw what it was.

So what kind of acceleration rates does a 350z have, anyway?

I'm actually trying to see what kind of acceleration it has in the post 60mph region. We ran from 60-120 mph.

For all I know, though, the guy never downshifted. Although why you'd floor it, and never downshift all the way to 120mph is beyond me.

Hey! Vortex dedicated a wedding thread to me!!!!

I've been trying to figure out how the heck you guys all found out. Too bad it got locked. Yep, I'm married. Scored me a cute one, too

Anyway, Wednesday = track day. Again. Let's see if I actually get a run in this time.

forbes
"350Z is a better-handling faster car than the $41,000 Porsche Boxster"
--------

Powertrains and Performance:
The front-engine, rear-drive 350Z features a strong and flexible 3.5-liter V6. Similar to the engines found in the Nissan Maxima and Altima 3.5 SE, the Z's engine has variable valve timing and an electronically controlled throttle. It makes 287 horsepower and 274 pound-feet of torque, enough to propel the Z to 60 miles per hour in just 5.6 seconds. A six-speed close-ratio manual transmission is standard, and a five-speed automatic is available.

Performance
Base Number of Cylinders: 6 Base Engine Size: 3.5 liters
Base Engine Type: V6 Horsepower: 287 hp
Max Horsepower: 6200 rpm Torque: 274 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 4800 rpm Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 35.3 ft.

Performance
Acceleration
0-30 mph: 2.2 sec.
0-60 mph: 5.8 sec.
30-50 mph: 2.2 sec.
50-70 mph: 3.1 sec.
Quarter Mile time: 14.0 sec.
Quarter Mile speed: 99.2 mph

--------

But seeing the manual is standard. Chances are it was also a stick car.

"We're here to see the eclipse," yells the girl from the white Accord.

"No," we yell back. "That's not an Eclipse, it's the new Z-car.

traction tends to break parts. Soon as you do get it to hook solid watch for broken parts. [glad you have the WC T5 huh?]
Id go ahead n carry an extra set of drive shaft u joint. n a few tools to change them on the side of the road.

Might wanna flip for a set of drag radials too.

Maybe set up a paypal donation for two tires as a marriage gift???

Just feather the launch Doward, if you don't hit at least a high 14...I'm gonna cry. If I can launch well with an Open rear, so can you!

It's not a matter of launching - I've gotten a 2.387 60' so far.. it's the fact that I can't feather the clutch through 3 gears, or I'll have a molten clutch plate.

We'll see... I'm heading out to do some more datalogging.

Stock suspension, big deal. Turbo V6, yeah, that IS a big deal. What are you doing to contribute here, again?

Uhm, Im not new here and no im not trying to be a dick.

Increase in Hp and no traction. Suspension work does wonders.

Theres a ton of cars running with much more power then you with smaller STREET tires that have their traction problems solved by doing suspension work.

Why is it some of you guys act so ****?

It's not being **** at all.. it's very tiring to do something on such a scale, only to have someone nitpick over it.

I was never trying to get a low ET. That was not my reason for going to the track on Wednesday. I wanted a good idea of exactly what kind of power increase we had built. 91 hp increase at the wheels is abso-friggen-lutely awesome, on only 7psi of boost.

Saying something like 'Nice man! Now get a suspension that hooks up, and see what it does!' is much different than saying 'Try doing some suspension work D00D' - the D00D is a blatant stab at Vortex, who just so happens to be the fabricating half of this party - so yeah, I take offense to it. Not to mention (not sure if it was you, or not, firebirrrrd) saying something like 'Learn to launch in the parking lot, not at the last minute'.

Either way, I'm happy as hell!

Maybe next time ill word it differently.

BTW the parking lot comment wasnt made by me, anyone who has done anything to there car and wants to get some times or see how the car reacts to the mods done knows theres a complete diff from the track and a parking lot.

Yes, it is. I just replaced the entire front end on her, as I'd rather be able to stop/turn well than go fast in a straight line.
