Distributor leaking like a champ....Question
Ok so ive got a puddle of oil at the base of my distributor, is this the distributor o-ring seal problem that gets confused with the rear main seal?
If thats what has gone on mine........where is the o ring located?

How to solve effectivly!
Go out and purchase the necesary "O" ring AND ALSO
A SMALL BLOCK CHEVY DISTRIBUTOR BASE GASKET and RTV BLACK.
Before ya go do the reseal job, find my thread about rebuilding your distributor.
Rebuild the distb, first, then do following....
remove the old "O" ring
CLEAN the entire area of distributor on engine block.
Double check your clean work with white paper towels, until NO residue is on paper towel.
Take the SBC gasket, coat both sides of SBC gasket with film of RTV Black. Also put that gasket on distributor, too.
Insert distb into engine block.
Tighten down distb upon correct timing setting.
Never a leak after that!
SBC gasket is about $1 or so.

ALSO USE the NEW "O" ring too!
It's real cheap insurance (two blockages for oil passage to the outside world).
Coat the "O" ring with FILM of motor oil before ya slip ONTO distb then into engine.
Big key is the distb base area of engine BEING CLEAN!!!!
White paper towels will tell ya when ya done with that mission.
Glad to pass a simple tip to all
