loud crack, probably broke something...

so I was making a U-Turn today, and I heard a loud (could hear it over music) crack/clunking sound coming from somewhere under the front of the car. there was a slight percussion to it. I looked under the car and at the front end and didn't see anything, but its nighttime.

anyone have an idea what this could have been?

What was it?

My guess is that you ran over the no U-turn sign, or perhaps a Mexican crossing the road.

take it out again and do the same manuever, see if it happens again. if not, you probably caught something in the road or whatever. if you keep hearing it, try to figure out where its coming from and exactly what youre doing when it happens: speed, tight or wide turn, etc.

Check the frame area around where your steering box mounts. It could be cracked

best thing to do is repeat what you did, and stop right when you hear it, then go inspect the car(in daylight conditions)

Is the car still moving under its own power? You didn't say if it stopped moving or not. It sounds like one of two things- either the frame is cracked under the steering box (like MDv6 stated- this is a common problem on cars without wonderbars) or you have a u-joint goiing bad in a fast way. either way, I would strongly suggest not driving it unless you want to increase your repair costs.

You did a u turn, turing the wheel really far. So it could of easily grabbed the inner fender plastic or mud flap, pull it up some and then it smacked back down against the car.

Also 3rd gens tend to skip in hop when doing low speed u turns as the tires, turn so far.

That aint no joke, man. I did a tight turn (full lock) in a parking lot that was blacktop with some small gavel on it. Got started turning and the car started hopin side to side so bad I think a couple of people that were nearby thought I was hittin the switches/hydro's or somthing.

No bag's, dro's, or 20's..... And I dont want 'um either.
