V6 Carb.... will it work out right?
Hey guys, I just got a free carb from a friend... said it came off an 84 Blazer 2.8L and it looks to be the same as mine.
Question is, is there any reason why it wouldn't fit? Would it be better/worse than the carb I already have? (something maybe they did to blazers carbs that they didn't do for a camaro carb)
Also it would seem this thing has vacuum advance... according a to a friend who had noticed all the connections. So that means I guess I'd need a different distributor for that, or I'd have to rip out my computer.
Thx for any advice/tips/ helpful suggestions

Compare it to your old carb - but first, is your old carb having any problems? If not, try rebuilding the one he gave you - good practice. Then sell it.

S10/Blazer carbs did use a different distributor that had a vacuum advance. Any parts store should be able to get a rebuilt distributor for you.
I doubt there would be any HUGE benefit from ditching the computer and all for that carb. Maybe if you were moving up to a 4bbl and the Edelbrock intake...

MDv6 has good point....you won't notice much of a difference at all....probably not worth the work of switching vacuum lines around and all that. What's your carb doing that you see a problem???? Rebuild kits for the Camaro E2SE 2bbl carburetors can be had for under $20-$25, and rebuilding them is reallllllllly easy as long as you have a T20, 25, and 30 torx bits. The diagram in the kit will show you an exploded view of the carb that is very easy to follow. Often times, all these carbs need is a new accelerator pump diaghram and the passages cleaned out. And gaskets, of course. But, unlike the Quadrajet, the E2SE does not require much adjustment AT ALL for minor rebuilds. In fact, the only three adjustments that can be made are fuel mixture (screw located in front section of throttle plate, do not touch unless major overhaul is done), lean mixture (screw in float bowl, aka the JET; not recommended to touch that one at ALL), and the float level. The emmission-controlled quadrajet also requires the mixture control solenoid to be readjusted (and I hear that's a pain in the neck). The mixture control solenoid on the E2SE does not get adjusted.
I have rebuilt E2SE's from two different Camaros, a total of 5 times between them (first car was a nightmare). Very easy to do. Minor rebuilds (replacements of things like the accelerator pump diaphram, etc) do not require you to touch the mixture screws. If you DO mess with them, DO NOT do it "by ear"! Use a dwell meter like is explained in the instructions with the kit or in a Chilton's manual, to ensure you get the correct mixture. A bad adjustment will totally drown whatever performance the tiny carb can put out. Been there, screwed that up, haha
