Headers?

I have read millions of posts on this site. I am 17 and own a 1988 Firebird as you all know. I was looking to invest some money into headers. Is it actually worth it? How much money is it all together, headers, y pipe etc? Can you feel the difference? Thanks guys

definately worth it! from what i hear, the pacesetter headers are on hold right now. i forget the price on them, but, they do include the y-pipe and all. if you go and do more to your engine, you will feel even more of a difference!

hold out for the pacesetters. i put them on mine, lil bit more sound (w/ dynomax and catco cat) and you can feel a difference. maybe not huge but a difference. mine were at the door for $217. check the stickys to find out the email addy for the guy at pacesetter and see how long theyre gonna be on hold. they had to refab the driver side header to make room for the longer oil filter. i just decided to run the shorter one and not worry about it, that was before they stopped production of them.

I've got the older style, never used, been out of the box once. I decided an S10 or Blazer would work out better for me to carry my stuff to school. I'm looking for somewhere to go with them since my return period has ended email me if your interested, we can talk about price and whatever ( Dgrocho@hotmail.com)

If anybody is looking for a camaro....

There is no fabrication necessary, just bolt them up and go. I think Dale got them up in under an hour or something

it comes with, as well as all the bolts and clamps you need. when i installed mine, i had to remove the bracket on the back side of the alternator though. it shouldnt hurt anything though.

I was the first to get the headers. I informed them of the oil-filter hitting the headers.

My car didnt have a bracket on the back side of the ac, so I'm "not missing it".

As for torque, I noticed more. But I know my tranny is slipping bad.

Somewhere I here, I posted a link of everything you had to do to get them on. Two people put them on in one weeknight after work.

Is the oil fitting problem fixed now? What bracket are you talking about, the alternator one? My car has AC and the stupid AIR pump so all that has to be removed. The y pipe that you get, does that bolt right up to your stock hanger and the stock cat? Thanks again

If you asked nice and paid for all shipping I bet they would exchange the older "bad" sytem for a new one. As like Dale said they are to close to the oil filter and are not worth installing on anything. I bet they would do it.

im talking about the triangle shaped bracket that bolts up to the alternator and the pass side exhaust manifold. i dont have a pic of it and the car isnt here right now, otherwise id get you a pic. but it sounds like not every car has this bracket, so you may be all set

The reason the headers are on backorder or whatever is because of the oil-filter situation. They were very concerned about it, more then happy to correct the situation. I sent them plenty of pictures.

Yes, you will have to remove the smog pump.

I know my car has had the heads redone, this bracket may have come up missing at that time. But either way it goes, 2-3 years this car has been missing that bracket and no problems.

AC wont need to be removed, not one part, even temp for install. The alternator will need to be temp removed for install.

Y-pipe was the easiest part to put on. My car is for *cough* "race only". The y-pipe stops in a place where the stock cat can be removed from old section, and put on new section. Hope that makes sense? I suggest while getting the cat welded on, have them weld the slip-joint on the y-pipe also.

Don't have inspectin hear so don't know what to tell you oon that, but alot of the 2.8s came w/o smog pumps from the factory...mine was smogless. Egr only. I even removed that and as long as my timing is at 10, even with the big cam, I pass emissions.

I got the first set of PF & E headers. They cost more then the pacesetters, not sure how much (were a b-day gift), but they are stainless with a y-pipe. They have no fittment issues. Clear the oil filter with a bigger truck filter fine! Very happy with them!

PF&E headers 586-949-3400

Ah, it's not hard at all to remove. You'll have to remove it anyway, for the turbo kit - but now I'm thinking I could really use a picture of the passanger side header, from a couple angles, installed - just to be sure I have room for the downpipe!!

dow, you need pics? PM me what type of angles you need. I got stuido lights I'll throw on it while snapping pics.

y-pipe stops not far from behind the tire. but where you can clamp on a cat, and bolt it up to the rear section. I guess I could take pics of that too? Mine has a cut-out rather then a cat.

Straight down from up top, and from the front going back almost level with the header tubes from the exhaust ports should work.
