What can be removed on 2.8L engines that can help free up space

My engine bay is a crowded mess. Lotsa wires and everything all around. Anyone have tips on getting the engine bay a lil more... "clean". Whether it be organization and such, possibly removal of components I can do without.

Just looking for tips really... You guys have had the v6s longer than I have ... probably car experience overall heh.

I just got done taking off the valve covers last week so I could replace the gaskets (picked up some fel pro cork gaskets) and went ahead and painted them while i was at it. It was hard because of so much in the way.

So tips... tricks... anything would be appreciated

EDIT: Just to add, I have taken off the smog pump and disassembled the AIR system... and thats helped clear up things.

Find a 3.4 block, get the Edelbrock 4bbl intake for the 2.8 (it will fit fine) and remove the EGR/Smog accesories. I believe i have a pic of my engine bay around here somewhere...

my problem with the swap of a 3.4 is..... why wouldn't I just go swap in a 350? lol I had a thread on this earlier and was so confused as to what was best to do when it comes to money and time.

The main reason is when you swap in a 3.4, you JUST swap in the 3.4 block.

350 needs new transmission, new radiator, springs, wiring, distributor, exhaust . . . blah blah blah

But a big way to clean up your current 2.8 is to hit the junkyard. Find an 85-up f-body that's fuel injected, and take it's electric fan and "fan shroud". The fan shroud, as you can see from Doward's pic, on an EFI motor is basically "just" an upper bracket and a lower bracket. While you're pulling out the fan and the two brackets and the "radiator cover plate", also take all the wires that connect the fan - take as much as you can of the wires, including the fusable link and the relay.

You'll also need the coolant temp switch in the rear of the passenger side head- it'll have a single green wire going to it. An easier way is to buy a new one from a parts store; buy it for the year/engine of the junkyard car.

Then junk your clutch fan and huge fan shroud, and install the junkyard parts. Hook up the junkyard wires, and you've got a cleaner looking engine compartment that should run a bit cooler.

You can relocate a lot of components where they are less noticeable...for example, relocating the charcoal canister under the battery tray area, or moving relays where they are less obtrusive.

I've seen that a 3800 swapped in can cut down a lot of clutter

Once everything is cleaned up, and looking "factory fresh" it'll just be that much better. Also, if you have the time, on the pass side along the fender I undid the wheel well liner & rerouted some wires so that they pass unseen to the battery. Looks really good & cleans up that side. I still haven't finished my a/c delete box ( ) but that also cleans up the engine bay a lot (however, w/my swap it would've been better to keep it & hide the pcm in it)

Get the Edelbrock 2bbl or 4bbl manifold, aftermarket carb, and remove the ECM and all related wires to the harness. Do a search in the V6 forum for a guy named Ghostrider84. He removed a bunch of stuff from his carbed v6
