Probs w/ Adjustable Fuel pressure regulator
How many of you have them...
I have a holley adjustable fuel pressure regulator and have had some odd occurances. Blew the seal in the first one. It toasted my stock injectors when it flowed full force!
Now the replacement somehow managed to readjust itself!
The story...about a year ago, We had it set to 45. Have not messed with it since. Lately the car has been running horrible. Gas mileage has been down to 10MPG...codes 22 & 44 at idle (o2 and TPS: Lean condition!) But we were smelling fuel, BAD! Car normally ran rich. Whats going on, we ask?
Well we replaced the O2 for the heck of it. We checked teh TPS its voltage was right in line. Computer and prom are new, so we disregarded that as the prob. Saw in a post someone states PCV sticking could cause lean cond, so changed it for the heck of it to! Ran SeaFoam thru the car. Cleaned the TB and plenum with TB cleaner. Car still coding. Tapped on the MAF with screw driver. Car never skipped a beat! So we then checked the fuel press reg to see if gas was in the vacuum line (busted diaphram)...nope it was fine!
So as we had discussed about a month ago when we began discussing a larger fuel pump for the car...we decided to road test the car and check fuel pressure. Popped on the gauge and went. Well here was the prob. @ 45-50 crusing the gauge read 25..,wtf. I got on it WOT and took it till it hit the Rev limiter around 75MPH (another thread on that!) Fuel gauge never hit 30.
So there was my lean condition and fuel smell. Cars pressure was so low the injectors did not have enough pressure to atomize the fuel properly. No wonder the exhause smelled gassy! The whole car smelled like gas!
So we bumped up the regulator back to 45. Car behaved like a new animal. Now I just have to see what the gas mileage does!
So my question is...do vibrations in daily driving cause the regulator to move over time?
Has anyone else had theirs readjust? I can't figure how it got from 45 to less then 30 by itself!
Any thoughts?
Would the fuel pressure being around 25-30 cause my code 22 and 44, as well as the 10 MPG?

I've heard many comments about the holly blowing seals. but it is like the only one that fits below the v6 intake.
Also, I didnt read the whole post, sorry.

I would def say that had something to do with your low mpg... maybe it set off the 02 code, but dont see how it would set off the tps... clear them codes and see if they show again. I know the tps can b stored if u've ran it disconnected in the past.
