DOWARD's fun little package...................

after reading his last post
i'm really thinging about keeping my 3.1

i've picked up several parts over the past 2 years that i'm said to say are still sitting on a shelf but acording to the sumitt rep are still returnable so here we go

how to prepare a 10+ yr old motor for DOWARD's fun little package?????

when you figure most of us have at least 80 - 100,000 miles on our engines what should one do to prepare it for boost????

what aftermarket parts would you recomed for a stock motor to get the most out of the turbo?

(with out blowing anything up of course)

The only way to "prepare" a motor for turbocharging is to rebuild... there's very little external you can do to be sure nothing will go wrong.

But there is one major external thing... make sure your fuel system is in top notch condition. Fuel pressure check, filter replacement, etc. A minor lean condition in a naturally aspirated engine -> scrap metal on a turbocharged engine.

Wow...nice list (especially some pre ported heads...). Just re-ring her, add some clevite bearings, and anew head gaskets, you're good to go.

All of that I would advise installing on the engine expect the 17lb injectors. You will need larger.

Cam is questionable, but better then stock either way it goes.

I think just a good dipping on the pistons should be fine. Then install new rings, bearings, etc.

Can you get us pictures of the ported heads? I would like to see a professionally done set.

I know this is a non-tech response, but can we please have a title that doesn't encourage one to fight a mental image????

btw, supersix has teh heads w/bigger valves too. A powerpack actually, that includes (I think) cam & ported intakes

I'll just point out that I'm using a 75k mile engine, with just a re-ring, and new bearings.

The last I looked, the bigger valves werent an option. And for 6 bills you could get just the heads, w/o the intake

Does installing larger injectors on a N/A engine help with preformance at all? I mean, would it be a major improvement of any kind?

Not unless your ones now are very dirty or you have alot of mods. Then they just need to be cleaned, or approperiatly sized injectors installed. If you need just one size bigger you could possibly bump your fuel pressure up instead.

Alright, mine is stock, but how would I go about cleaning the injectors, do I just need to run the cleaner through a tank of gas, or is there something that I should actually take apart and clean out?

Wow....been a while since I posted..... Whaddup Dale?!?!?!

The 15lb/hr injectors are pintle style injectors. Prone to clogging and not very great design. Go to the junk yard and pull a set of 17lb/hr injectors off of any pontiac berlinetta or whatever 3200 gen V6 and you will have disc style injectors. They have better control over the spray and don't clog as easy. Thats what I did and it helped out alot. They are a little lower resistance, but my ECM didn't seem to mind. Plus at $5 an injector, you can't go wrong.
