Bigger V6 Throttle Body

Are these available for the V6? Figure it would be a nice simple bolt on.

Any Ideas?

there is nothing available right now. i have built one for my car but i haven't run it very much yet. once i get some run time with it, i am considering making more to sell but i want to verify that my design has no problems.

Hey guys,

There is a guy who bores out throttle bodies. He charges about $150 bucks and will bore it out to 57mm. He does this currently for Fiero throttle bodies, but they're not THAT different from a Camaro / Firebird 3rd gen V6 throttle body.

He also said that he has done a couple for his friends before.

If you're interested, shoot him an e-mail.

i don't think that there is enough meat in a f-body TB to bore it to 57 mm. i have an extra stock one out in my garage that i was already planning to bore to see how big i can make it. i'm thinking that i might only be able to take it to 54mm, but, we'll see. of course, that 2 extra mm calculates out to over 30cfm...

Stock is in fact 52mm= 308cfm
FDP made a 62mm=435cfm, but will not work on the stock intake plenum. I tried to taper port a stock intake to work with it but was not happy with the tiny lip remaining to seal the gasket area between the TB and the plenum. I would guess about 57 mm would be the most you could port the stock intake for a smooth nontaper flow.

The FDP 62MM TB's were discontinued due to lack of sales.

i don't know yet how much i would sell the bigger TBs for. i want to get some run time on mine to make sure that there's no problems before i even consider, very seriously, selling them. i am guessing an extra 30-40 cfm going from 52 to 54 mm.

62mm TB attached to a stock plenum ported max to fit. I did npt want to try and port the green section any thinner than I did because it was just getting too thin. I did prt material off of the plenium about 4 inches up inside the plenum from the TB lip, but I just did not want to make the rest of it any thinner to match the 62mm. I only ported the 62mm at the tapered lip I show and realized I am running the risk of breakage or even porting a hole right into the casting walls- this is when I decided to build the new plenum.

The blue line shows aprox stock plenum wall thickness.

30-40 cfm is only my guess and that's only with 2mm. 2mm isn't very much. now, if i can go 5mm bigger on the stock unit...we'll be looking at quite a bit more flow... my new 65mm SHOULD flow close to 600 cfm! of course, that's going on a 3.1 with a lot of mods! i'm a little worried that it might be a bit much but we'll find out pretty soon, i hope!

30 cfm is quite a bit when you consider the size and requirements of our engines.

nothing would be required but some porting out of the neck would be beneficial.

A stock 1985 MPFI unit works very effectivly as is mated to a 3.4 mill.
One wants to increase outside cooler air to stock MPFI set up.
One wants to exit exhaust fumes better than a stock exhaust set up (my current weak area of my combo).
One wants to ignite fuel stronger (to take burn more fule) than stock ignition set up.
My engine a 3.4 swallowed all these goodies (except exhaust) and it works very well using a cleaned (not ported) out 1985 MPFI unit. And I'm running the more restrictive Firebird air cleaner intake set up, too.

I just setup the TPS on the 62mmTB and RTV'ed the TB to the ported stock extra plenum I have- going to try it out on the 2.8 tommorrow if I get home early enough to see if it will render any results on a basically stock motor.

I'll post results when I try it- by this weeekend for certain.

You're using the stock strong 2.8
Give a shout about your results!
Totally peaked my interest!
I can only say the stock stuff, "works just fine" ontop a 3.4 mill.
My only limitations I feel is the stock exhaust system I run.
Yes I am using a 1995 Camaro AC Delco Cat Convertor & a Ansen Z-28 exhaust muffler set up, to help.
To help. Stock is so restrictive.
How I can't wait to install the PaceSetter Street Legal Exhaust system. Your ride has the headers, too right?
