Whats making the noise?

Well i ended up putting a new a/c compressor on my car because the other was toast. Now I have a new belt and it squeks so i sprayed some of the belt dressing on it and it started to squel loud and started to knocked very loud. I have no clue what was knocking. The noise and everything did go away when i let it run for a bit but comes back when i spray the belt dressing on it. Any clue here? It a loud squel and a hard knock because I can feel it if I touch parts on the car in the engine bay. Only does this when I spray the dressing. Any idea? Did it with the old a/c compressor also so it can't be that.

first off, belt dressing is bad. when you put another belt on you have to clean that stuff off every pulley with a wire brush or something. its just a band-aid, and not a very good one.

id say check the belt tensioner to make sure the belt is tight enough.

Yeah, well this spring I will clean it all off and put on a real good belt. There is alot of tensrion on it and it does not seem to be coming from the tensioner. Could something be slipping on the belt and when that stuff is applied and grabs it? If that were the case though, i think I would burn up my belt quick? Thanks

it could be the new a/c compressor. just pull over next tiem it starts squelling like a deliverance movie, pop the hood & track it down.

when you hear it squealing next, take a long handled screwdriver or prybar and set one end on the housing of each accy and put your ear on the handle end and whichever one you hear the noise the loudest at is your culprit.

i still think your problem has something to do, partially anyway, with the belt dressing. id say take a half a day on a weekend and clean each pulley off REALLY well and see how it does then. just my opinion though

take the belt off the p/s pulley and grab ahold of the pulley. see if there is any play in the shaft.
