Where is all the coolant going?

The other day, my temp gauge was in the red. i checked my radiator and it was half empty. So i replaced the hoses and antifreez and the thermostat while i was at it. the next time i take it out, the temp goes sky high again and i look in my radiator...half empty. Now, its running good but everytime i check the radiator after i drive it, it is about 2" low. Ive refilled it about 3 times and it continues to do it.

It's not a leak because there is nothing underneath of it and its not a head gasket cuz theres no steam coming from the exhaust. And i doubt its an air bubble cuz i dont think there is an air bubble big enough to drain half of my radiator

Any suggestions?

Check your oil and trans fluid. Is either milky white.

Could be a lucky, leaky head where the only problem is leaking coolant out the exhaust.

You might be burning it.

Heater core? But you'd be getting a flood in the passenger's footwell...

pull a couple spark plugs, see if the ends are white. may be a head or intake gasket leak. it may still be one of those leaking, even if there isnt white smoke. ive seen a couple other 60 degree v6s do that. look all around the outside of the intake manifold. theyre real common to leak, both internal and external.

Had the same problem...

I had the exact same problem. My Temp gauge would start out normal and then shoot right up to the red. At first I thought the gauge was faulty, because I had just had the radiator and hoses replaced, but then I checked the radiator. Almost empty. Filled it up and drove home. When I got home, I noticed the smell of antifreeze in the air, checked the radiator. Low on coolant again. I called my mechanic and explained the situation and asked him what could be wrong. He told me to go check my passenger side floor. My passenger side floorboard was saturated with coolant (which was where the smell of coolant was coming from), I came to find. Replaced the Heater Core (like 60 bucks, but loads and loads of fun to replace) and I haven't had a problem since.
But if its not the heater core, you may be leaking coolant internally, check your oil/ trans fluid.

You have a slight leak in your head gasket & it's being burnt by engine.
Had that for years (I rarely drove it)
One day it just shut down due to head gasket saying good bye. And then I had chocolate milk for oil.
Expect that.
Solutions?
Drive it until it dies.
But always have water.
Cna ya use Barrs Stop leak?
Sure give it a try.
I then swapped heads and that was wasted effort, too.
I installed a 3.4 & haven't looked back.

there is one little place on the backside of the engine block where there is a sensor to turn the fan on and off and it is in the path of the coolant. I would doubt that you would actually have a leak there, but I thought I might mention it as a possibility.

just checked the oil and tranny fluid..both look normal.
And it's not the heater core, the floor is perfectly dry

if theres nothing in the oil, trans, inside of the car or on the outside of the engine, its gotta be burning it internally. nowhere else left. pull a couple plugs, theyre probably white.

I had a very stressful day yesterday, very similar to your problem. Every time I walked into my garadge I had coolant on the floor. I knew I had a persistent coolant leak from that funky thing above the water pump but I was content to keep filling the recovery tank untill the weather warms up a bit and I can replace it. I recently was away for 2 weeks and my car was sitting the whole time. I got home, eagar to start her up and take it for a quick spin, but it wouldn't start. After jumping it and making sure it took the charge, I took it into the street. About 5 minutes down the road the temp soared way above 270. I sat a couple minutes, and after seeing that the temp was not going to go down, I went home. Checked the radiator coolant level. It was down far enough to the point where I could not see it! Filled it back up, took her out for a while and she was fine, temp even looked a little cooler than normal. Today, I walk into the garadge, and again there is a pool of coolant running all over the place. If you can actually see the coolant somewhere, you might want to check out this: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...oolant+%2Bleak

After my latest water pump swap, I had a persistant leak.
I tightened every hose & checked this & that even caught a bolt on water pump slightly loose.
After all said & done (cause I knew condition of all the new stuff), I followed advice of friend & inserted some alumiseal, aluminum powder. No more leaks.
PS I have all new hoses & such, too.
BUT for a leak like stated, ya need the HD stuff, Barrs Stop leak to MAYBE help it last longer, a slight head gasket leak.
