A running car for $250?

Worse case scenario - you part the car out, make that x 3.

I actually did the same thing. I went and got a 1984 Camaro and pulled the H.O. (L69) engine, trans, radiator, rear end, springs (which were shot), and a few other things out of it. This was when I was gonna swap my 2.8 for the 5.0 H.O. (before I learned to love my v6). The car cost $300, but...I had to rent a U-Haul for the day and I had to drive 4 hours to get it. It also cost some money to junk it. In the end the car really cost close to $800 dollars. So, I don't know what the exact situation with this car is, but it may wind up being a bit more than $250 dollars. Are you just trying to get the body and pull everything out and start with a shell? If so make sure the car has a really nice body (rust, straight, ect) Just keep in mind that it could wind up being a huge hassle in the end, costing you a bunch more than you thought.

You should be able to call your state's DMV and find out what it takes to get a car with a salvage title back on the road. Or maybe they have a website (since it's the weekend and they're closed)?

I think the worst scenario is if a car doesn't have a title at all... as long as it's got some kind of title, you're probably OK. (Correct me if I'm wrong tho!)

State troopers handle the inspection stuff, call your local station. Some but not all states will give a clean title if it passes.
Like building a custom bike or car. Trooper gives it the basic vehicle inspection to see if its road worthy.
