max RPM?

what is the highest RPM you guys and girls run your 60* v6s at (specifically 3.1s)? if anyone has FACTS on what rpm stock crank and rods can handle, that's more than welcome but i'd like to hear from experience mainly. i'm curious if i'm riskin it hittin (not maintaining) 7.5-8k on my motor...that's why i'm askin.

i recall reading somewhere on here that doward said these stock bottom ends are set up to run 7000 easily. but im not sure what post it was. i would imagine your top end setup wouldnt have a problem so you might be alright. interesting to find out what they really can handle, modified or stock though. it is definetly more than 5500 though.

i've had my tach past the 7000 that it goes to but i don't know exactly how high it was. i need to do it with the datalogger hooked up and see what it says. i don't plan to run it up at 8000 very often or anything but it gets there so quickly now...

GM itself claims the stock components of a 2.8/3.1 will spin up to 7k fine. so i would guarantee that you are fine in the 7k range and probably fine up to 7.5k or so,

Incorrect - the bottom end WILL handle 7000rpm blasts.

The valvetrain, stock and worn out, will not

Upgrade the valvetrain, and have a camshaft/intake/heads/exhaust that will feed the motor there, as well

Also, I've had mine up to 6300rpm a couple times

I have hit just below 7k before after about 6000 RPM there is a major dropoff in power.

Heck yeah... the only thing is, I think you'll hit max power with that cam, around 6300rpm Shift at 6600-6800rpm?

I've wound the 3.4 to 6800-7000 a few times... but it's all aftermarket valvetrain... The 60* configuration makes it a really balanced motor I was told (high rpm, with little vibration).
