Timing Help!!!

Timing Help!!!

my timing in my 87 camaro (2.8) was way out of wack about 10 degreeze, any way i adjusted the distributor and about 30 seconds later the timing went back to crap. does anyone know what i need to do to have this fixed??? TIA>

did you unplug the EST connector before you started to time the car? I timed my car the other day and had the same problem and then unplugged the EST and timed it and the car ran fine.

brown wire, white stripe on the passenger side firewall, on the very top of the firewall.

After you finish, pull the plugs and check them. I ran way-over-advanced (off the scale!) for a while once; then the fuel pump died. I changed the pump and the car wouldn't start. I pulled the plugs, and the #1 plug was destroyed!! There was no more center electrode. That's when i found out the timing was way overadvanced.

So check the plugs and make sure none were damaged.

By the way, my #1 cylinder reads the lowest out of all 6 on a compression test, so there was definately some damage done

well, timing wasnt too bad, fixed it, car still ran like crap..... so i got pissed off and spayed a can of 2+2 down the throught (throttle body) and instantly it ran better, so i cleaned it all up and she is keepin up with the z28's next step is injectors.....
