how stupid/funny is this?

me and my friend were going about replacing the automatic shift **** in my firebird but couldnt quite figure out how to get the stock one off.. my friend was screwin around with the thingy on the back but had no success (turns out he was doin it wrong), and i assumed that wasnt it.

then we found a box cutter in the dash compartment thing that apparently the previous owner left in there.. now everyone who knows me and steve knows not to trust us with sharp objects..

it wasnt long before we tore that leather upholstery that surrounded the shift **** a new a-hole in an attempt to find how to get the **** off.. after finding out there was nothing beneath the upholstery i made my own attempt at the thingy and got it off easily

what a waste of good leather material, now my console looks like crap. shouldnt be hard to find a replacement for that, right?

ill post a pic tomorrow or somethin

To get that off there is a little C-clip facing your radio. Get a little screwdriver and pop it out, then vuola it comes off no problem.

p.s. no box cutter required

Yep, the clip looks like a metal staple.
It's there for all to remove with a small screwdriver.
Why ya wouldn't have spied it as ya was cutting apart a decent interior is much food for thought or fun comments at your expense!
YET I WILL SAY THAT, some ways that GM has used to attached shifter handles are pretty interesting.
Before ya destroy a decent dash for a Firebrird, send it my way. I can use one!
