How many miles on your V-6?

My 2.8 is coming up to 100,000 miles really soon. Everything with the exception of the alternator, a/c compressor, cap/rotor/plugs/wires is allllll original! Just wondering how many miles can ge gotten out of these engines. I hear 200,000 easily, and even 300,000? Anyway, just wondering how many miles everyone has.

Speedo broke at around 189k.
I ran it another 2-3 oil changes, and then changed engines.

3.1 had the chain replaced, and appeared privious owner(s) had a head job done at some point.

The #2 piston was slappin hard, but still rolling.

Distrib was replaced, but because it sat for atleast a year before I bought it. Had rusted up majorly.

Alt was replaced several times.

WP replaced

AC compressor is bad.

I've put another 3 oil changes on new motor. So I guess shes got about 200+ overall.

hmm...that's what was on the odo of mine when I bought it. Engine broke a valve and previous owner pulled it out. I got it with no engine in it. 5700 miles on it now.

When I finally got it back on the road I found out the odometer was broken, every number up to the hundreds (999.9) would work but would not roll over the thousands. Don't know how long it was like that before the engine died.

129777 KILOMETERS

things i replaced: just replaced shocks, struts, swaybar endlinks. 1 front spring broke, so thats getting replaced soon with the balljoints (nipples are out), injectors (i screwed those) winshield washer pump (once again my fault, ran it dry) fuel pump, brakes, 1 headlight, a few sets of tires, tranny is on its way out -will swap with a used one when it blows, ignition coil, pickup coil, plugs, wires, thermostat, fuel filter, 02 sensor, cat, ds power door lock, both door lock cylinders, trunk pop motor, ds mirror housing (my fault -damn ice), hatch + hood shocks, tps sensor, tps sensor coupler+wires, muffler, ds rear brake cylinder, ... i think thats it.

not too bad in my eyes. i got the car when it had 70,000 KILOMETERS and just drove it pretty much.

120k. Runs fine, leaks a little oil and needs some cosmetics, but a strong car overall.

74,000 original owner miles. Paint isn't worth crap - it's flaking/peeling in a lot of places, but I'm having it stripped and repainted in a few weeks. Otherwise just routine maintenance stuff.

150,000

Just turned 150,000 with my 89. I have had it for 15 years and have only had to replace water pump, alternator, starter and some minor sensors. Started leaking oil because it sat for awhile. Still runs strong and transmission still good. Going to have the engine rebuilt since it doesn't make much sense tearing the whole motor apart and putting the old parts back in.

Wow, it does seem that the V-6 engines last a while! That is great to know!

I think these V-6's are a very well designed car with some of the milage numbers im seeing even on mine ive taken it to hell and back and it still goes i got the car when i turned 16 and im 22 now and we all know how we treated our cars when we were 16 and 17 im surprised mine has lasted i overheated it past the 260 mark and the car was wanting to stall i was trying to kill the eninge because i wanted an excuse for a 3.4 but the car lived and that was about 4 years ago all that was wrong was my fan wire got chewed by a rat.

Mine is at 102k. I've only had it for 2 weeks and have done some minor repairs but overall, I'm happy with its preformance.

I'm planning on changing the engine out anyhow next year some time.

i'll be at 300k by the end of the year.

i think the infamous distributor ring leak saved my engine. I would have to add a quart of oil a week. Always had new oil in the engine.

The other savior (i think) is that I rarely used the AC. That strains the engine beyond believe IMO.

And of course, I babied it.

217,000 when the speedo crapped out last week. Still runs like its new I've had it since 186,000, and it looked like a new engine. Can't say the same for the tranny tho :*(

164,000 on the 86 firebird. The 2.8 still runs strong, and I can get 24-27 mpg on the highway.

158,000 as of June 1, 2005.
I hear people grumbling about replacing this or replacing that... these cars are AT LEAST 14 years old- stuff breaks!

I have NO CAR PAYMENT, and when I pull up next to some yuppie in a BMW /Mercedes/Jag/Lexus/etc, the girl sitting beside him LOOKS AT MY CAR!

My 3rd Gen cost me TO BUY what his PAYMENT and insurance costs him each month... so I spend $100-200 a month tinkering with my Camaro- big deal!

By the time he goes to sell his car, he will have paid $80,000 for a car that listed at $35,000 and will, by then, be worth $20,000!

And I will STILL have my Camaro, it will still be worth what I paid for it AND his girl will be sitting next to me!

AH, life is sweet!!

Bought it with 171,XXX km with a "thrown rod"

My mind said why the hell not lets see if this thing actually threw a rod so new ignition and new fuel system in and yes, the bottom end is screwed.

Currently sitting at..... 171,XXX km, probably put about ooo lets say 20km on with the tow truck

Currently hunting a 3.4 down to throw in and the new ignition and fuel system change right over thankfully and I will be good to go hopefully.

my V6 had 194,000 on it and still ran strong when I pulled it out, that was in january of '03. The car today has 202,903. I don't drive it that much any more, partly because I have a beater car and partly because it needs to be painted, which I'll be getting done soon.

When I had my 89 GTA I took my couisns 89 beretta (in 94) with 2.8 V6 (alluminim heads instead of iron in f-bodys, why I don't know) I kept it as a third car and as a fun beater for me and my buddies. When I got it it had 210k. I beat the crap out of that poor car for years but man it held up. We took it camping and drank shall we say a little to much and decided to go off roading in the beretta. The fun lasted about 10 minutes till I lost grip and side swiped a tree and skidded until we flipped over 3 times before we landed her in a ditch. No injuries to us though. The beretta, said to say she didn't make it. The park ranger to this day I'm sure still has no idea how we got that car in there.!! Anyway she had like 240k at her untimely passing. But I gotta say that of all the cars I've owned that little V6 I know would have kept going much longer. Great engine. I also like 3.1 and 3.4. I also hear they are bulletbroof as well but more HP.

I have 168,000 engine was still running great untill I parked it a couple years back because a few of the gears in the trany were going out, soon after the fuel pump went out. So with it sitting so long now I will probibly rebuild or replace engine when I do trany. It is a very long list of things that I have had worked on most not unexpected for the miles on car and for an old car. I bought the car with 69,000 and 7 years old so I had to expect some work.

153k miles on the car now
141k miles when the 2.8 came out, running poopy w/ 2 bad sensors and a leaky injector
57k miles on the 3.4 when it went in, so its 69k miles now

the trans is about the only thing i havent touched yet, aside from the clutch.
