Dyno Comparison 3.1 vs 5.0

well i finally got to run my 1991 firebird 5.0 on the dyno today so i thought i would post a comparison to my 1992 Camaro 3.1

1992 Camaro RS 3.1V6 Modded (dyno jet)
~133hp
~178Tq

1991 Firebird 5.0V8 STock (mustang Dyno)
~134hp @ 4000RPM
~216Tq @ 2500RPM
~16.6 1/4 mile(ewww)

i have to say im a bit dissapointed with that 5.0, and its in damn good shape. i know there are a few diffrences in the dynos but i still expected more outtve the V8.

with that being TBI, it sure jumped the tq up.

I belive the 305 suffers from crappy heads and intake correct?

Well, pretty much everything stock on them is crappy, LOL . Heads, cam, intake, and exhaust.

Lol on paper a fuel injected 5.0l V8 sounds incredible yet in reality not that much better than the v6, except more parts and tq. I didn't think the TBI would be that bad.

I've noticed TBI is quite torquey (sp?). Where mpfi/tpi is more rpm/hp.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, and I wouldn't read too much into it either, especially since you did the pulls on different dynos and probably under different atmospheric conditions.

Last fall Super Street Magazine (I think it was them) did a test of dynos using the same vehicle. Yep, they took the same truck to 7 different dynos and got, surprise!, 7 different numbers. The difference from "best" to "worst" was 58HP!! With the SAME truck!!

Dyno numbers don't mean squat unless you do a baseline pull, install your mods, and do another pull on the same dyno, with the same technician running it, and under the same atmospheric conditions. I did this a year ago with some parts on my other car (NOT the bone stock 3.1 Camaro!). We did three pulls stock and got numbers like 175, 178, 176HP. We installed the parts and did three more pulls, with numbers like 205, 208, 210HP. Those numbers can be used for comparison, I don't believe yours really can.
