Timing ???

Where should the distributor body be facing when at TDC? If I'm at the front of the car looking back, should the connectors be at 9:00?

I know where the rotor should be, I want to know were the body should be. You can be a tooth off and still line up to #1. The body rotates a lot...

Could be at 9:00, or 10:00, or 11:00. Mine are at 12:00.

Like you said already, the body rotates, there's no way you can tell where a distributor body can be!

You need to:

1. Find TDC of #1 cylinder's compression stroke
2. Make sure your balancer mark lines up with 0 degrees after you find TDC
3. The rotor will now be lined up to 0 degrees advance.

Then pick a terminal to mark as #1. You'll need to give the distributor a bit of advance to start, so try spinning the dist body so the rotor's between two cap terminals. Mark the one "counterclockwise" of the rotor as #1, and mark the one "clockwise" of the rotor as #2.

But you can NOT, absolutely NOT, determine where your distributor body should be facing at TDC by basing it on other people's cars.
