Cigarette lighter & hatch release - related???
A few days ago I noticed that my cigarette lighter socket was no longer working (plugged in my usually accessory), and today I come to find out that the hatch release switch on the console isn't working either.
So, I whip out the Haynes Manual and check out the wiring diagrams - I don't see either of these two shown anywhere! Does anyone know if they share a fuse, and if so which fuse that might be? Or is there a common run of wire shared between the two? I ask this because my aftermarket radio was recently stolen, and although the cretins who took it didn't really do any serious damage to the dash, I'm wondering if they might have cut a wire in the process. I've already replaced the head unit, but can get back into the opening fairly easily if need be.
I'm hoping one of you guys knows the answer before I start gutting the interior to check it out!

I think it may be your ACC fuse its been a while since i have been down there. I know when my cig fuse went my power doorlocks stopped working along with all my courtesy lights and dome light.

I didn't check if the dome light was working or not - bright sunshine when all this became apparent. As for power door locks, well, this car is pretty stripped down, no power anything (except steering and brakes!). The dash lights do come on though, I specifically checked those.

If your horn doesn't work either then its definately the ACC fuse. You didn't drop a penny into the cigarette lighter, did you? That's a common problem...

my stock lighter socket popped a fuse every time i used it. I got one from an 04 escalade and made it fit with a dremel and some black hot glue in the back of it. looked stock and had a nice rubber grip on it.

Found it, fixed it, everything's back to normal. For the record, it was a 15amp fuse in this car. Not sure why, unless it's just because this car has virtually no options on it.
Thanks for the help guys!

that should have been a 20 amp fuse, replace the 15 with a 20 or it may blow when you have your doors open and the lighter popped in.

I love having no options; the only two on my car were rear defog and power windows. Actually there was a third; the power antenna, but that's long gone now! I don't even have a hood pop or power door locks or (thankfully!) cruise control.

Base price of $12,075.00
Preferred Equipment Group $1,085.00
(includes A/C, AM/FM cassette, body side mouldings, color keyed front/rear floor mats)
Auto trans w/overdrive $530.00
California Emission Requirements $100.00
Power Hatch Release $60.00
Total comes to $13,850.00
Destination charge $490.00
Preferred Equipment Group Savings -$550.00 (roughly 1/2 off the above price)
Grand Total: $13,790.00
You know, since that was 13 years ago, and the car has NOTHING on it, that price actually seems high. I'll bet that taking inflation into account, it's really high for such a base model.
Yep, I just found a cool little inflation calculator online, and it tells me that adjusting that price to 2005 dollars would give a sticker of $18,675.22 These days you get a lot more on a car for 18 grand it seems. Of course, you'd have to buy a Hyundai to get it, and seriously, who wants to do that?

Mike, the ACC fuse actually is a 20 Amp'r. The fuse sizes are printed on the fuse box next to each one. As for the problem of the ACC fuse blowing, it may be due to the cigar lighter itself. Mine now resides in the console as it blows the fuse whenever it is in place.
The body of the lighter shorts out the socket and takes out the fuse. I figured it out one dark night when I put the lighter back into the socket and saw it sparking. Then found the ACC fuse blown, again. I've also seen this same problem on other GM vehicles.
