88 Maro vs 300zx

My buddy has got a NA 300zx, 5 speed, and i have a 2.8 camaro 5 speed. We wanna race soon as my clutch is done, who do you think is going to win....I looked up specs...his engine is 165 but he weighs in at 3600lbs and im at 135 hp and weighing in at around 3200. These engines are both over 100k miles. And Im the better driver of the 2.

The 300 Z cars are fast is it turbo? If not it might come down to the better driver but i do think the Z might win.

the Z. 2.8's arent for racing. Not to be a dick or anything though lol. Not sayin it is either, but it's probally faster than 2.8

There was a mid '80's 300Z at the local 1/8th mile track, no idea if he was turbo or not, but it ran 10 flat times with a passenger.
That's about a 15 second 1/4 mile.

My 3.1 Camaro ran 10.80-10.90 with high mileage and a passenger, which is high 16 second range 1/4 mile.

Bottom line? You can race him for fun, but you ain't got a chance!

My favorite Z's are the old 260's and 240's. Sweet looking cars.

I kick the crap out of my father in laws 300Z routinely in my 3.1 w/5 speed.

He has a five speed also.

My car is completely stock, as is his. We both have about 135,000 miles.

I must admit though, his car has had a harder 135,000 from the looks of it.

The damn thing still runs strong as hell though.

I had no idea it was heavier than my car, it looks a bit smaller and lighter to me..... Are you sure about that?

You're going to get your *** handed to you. get your info correct.

The baseline300ZX 5 speed V6 puts out 222hp and they weigh in at 3300lbs. The twin turbo puts out 300hp

hmmm... I don't think we're talking about the same car here. My inferior knowledge of imports has made me look like a dumbass in here.

a stock 300z may not be that fast...i raced a 2004 350Z with my car (305 TBI 170 HP stock) and it was about dead even (although i do have some minor mods)...with a V6 you might take him off the line and up to ...? but top end he will probably overcome you, just like the 350Z did when we raced....just an opinion though...

heh...if he just learned to drive stick...you will definitely beat him off the line. Who knows man...if you're just racing for fun (and off the street preferably), then go for it. Ain't no thing...give it a shot...just be safe, dude.

Those things look so much faster than they are. A friend of mine has one of the new 2005 Enthusiast versions. We ran at the track over the weekend, as did one of his buds with an Infinity G35 Coupe. I beat them both with my other car - they'd kill my 3.1 Thirdgen of course - and neither of them liked going down to a PT Cruiser. OK, so I'm running drag radials, but still......I ran 14.5s to their 14.6 and 14.9. Yeah, they had traction issues and I didn't, but still.......they lost to a PT!! Muwhahahahahahah!!!!

Either way though, you can't compare the 2004-2005 Z cars with the old ones...completely different beast.

whoa there Luke Duke. Where did I come off being nasty? I gave you a factual warning that your info was incorrect from the 165hp you posted up top that the 300zx has and they do not weigh 3600#'s
Gave you a heads up that you have false info and better check on what you posted.

Facts are facts, You'll get your *** handed to you. It won't even be close. Don't like a truthful and factual answer, then don't ask.
