im stumped...

alright..2 things...#1 i got my a\c charged 2 day....my compressor or just something with my a\c is loud! when i get 2 like 2 grand (rpm) it hums real real loud. anything to worry about? i figure its just...well..old.

and the second...in the back of the manifold (or plenum) there are 2 hoses that meet at a T and go into the manifold. i can see those 2 hoses are a little cracked...could this be why i can smell gas when my a\c or any kind of fan is on? i can kinda smell it when i get out 2. im not leaking at all anyware....are there anykind of evap hoses around the back of the engine i can look for...thanx

answers 1. yes 2.no theese engines should be prety quiet up front, all the evap lines run around the front of the engine. there is however a fuel pressure regulator or the fitting for a fuel guage around the back of the plenum. the a/c compressor should be audible but not "loud"

my advise is to replace all vacume lines. it only costs about 10-15$ to do it.

the two lines coming out of the plenum are just vacuume lines, the big one goes to your brake booster and the little one goes to the ORB OF POWER (vacuume can) in your fender and also to the cruise control. the both leave the air side of the engine and therefore should not be producing fule smell.

i would sniff around the area where the evap can is. i was (and still am) getting a godawfull fuel smell from my car. i traced the first leak to the vapor vent line going to the can.

also repalacing your vacume lines is a greate idea. unfortunatly it is a HUGE project. there are like 6 or seven running inbetween the uper and lower plenum (upon inspection in my 86 they were all in tiptop shape so i left most of them) and one going down to some component in the belt seystem i have yet to replace. but i feel it is a good idea. i solved three vacuume leaks (that i did not know of untill project) while doing just the easy toi get too ones.

it took me 30 mins to change all the smaller ones out, now the 1/2 and larger, i am doing this weekend if i can ever get the plenum broke free of the runners. darn thing won't come off, i am gonna get a diggin iron and try this time, cause the 2 foot pipe didn't work last time i tried. f u c king thing. i hate it, but if all else fails i got a bfh with it's name all over it! i know there are some electrical things in there and i am very careful not to mess anything up
