Need help iding a block **EDITED now with pictures**

I've had this block for a while now and have been buying parts in preperation for a rebuild, now i have a few questions, the motor in my car has a timing chain cover that bolts to the pan, the new motor sits on top of the pan with a thick rubber gasket sealing it.

now the motor in my car is supposed to be original but i cannot verify this, do i have an earlier style cover and pan on my car, or is the new engine from a later year?

any help would be great as this has been bugging me for a long time

yeah i have a feeling the actual block might be a 3.1 block, with a 2.8 intake put on top.

i'm hoping anyways

i'm gonna have pictues and numbers up in a few minutes

it might be a 3.1 . Here's a pic of the 85 2.8 front over & you cain see that the inlet/outlet channels are opposite:

unless it's different due to teh full serp belt configuration.

any spots for ka-nock sensors?

actually both the 2.8 and 3.1 have the knock sensor

but this engine didn't come with a csi

so that leads me to believe it might be 3.1

i'm happy even if its only a 2.8

for the record, neither my 85 2.8 or my 88 2.8 had a knock sensor, but my 91 3.1 does. my 85 2.8 had the pan bolting to the timing cover, but the 88 had the thick rubber gasket, so they evidently changed it betw/ 85 and 88... but odds are it's a 2.8 if it bolts to the pan...
