Cat Install... It never ends...

I need a decent pic of a catalytic convertor installed in a stock exhaust system. I believe that the way I have it installed, with the flanges pointing vertically instead of horizontally, is wrong, and my ground clearance sucks as a result. It would also help if someone could tell me if there is a difference between the 700R4 and T5 catalytic convertor hangers. I have one hanger that I bought at the junkyard with my pipes, and the trans flange doesn't match with the bolts on the tailshaft housing. I would prefer a pic taken from the underside of the car and not just the side, so that I can see exactly how the flange/hanger setup looks when installed correctly.

Wish this was asked when I installed my convertor recently.
Too late
let me offer this
IF UNIVERSAL CC
the muffler shop "knows" what to do.
IF A DIRECT REPLACEMENT CC, then in all honesty (IF you purchased correct direct replacement part), this is a moot question.
I, too, need the CC hanger item, myself.
I strongly suggest that ya get the auto hanger set up for auto powered rides. Not stick set up hanger.
Only other solution I can say is to make sure from manufacturer that you got the correct application for your ride.
Me?
I got a 1995 3.4 direct replacement CC from Magnoflow! ($113 total)
It fit perfectly! As in larger outlets (2 1/2") and all that stuff onto my (I BELIEVE) original 1985 issued pipes.
Hope this is a helpful response, minus pics.

I am never buying another catalytic convertor for this car as longI I live.
My solution- Since the cat does somewhat act as a muffler, I simply replaced it with a flow through bullet muffler so 1)I can run a straight pipe while still keeping the noise level down, and 2 in the event I get pulled over by some roadside smog **** it at least looks somewhat the part and I can debate that it is a cat for avoiding any visual headache

The bottom left shows the stainless steel V-clap collars I have and will be installing before my next biannual smog inspection with a new 3-way catalytic convertor that I can then "quickly" unbolt out of there and keep in perfect shape for future tailpipe reading inspections.

Right side pics are the universal exhaust hanger I installed and how I bent it to mount onto the tailshaft housing. This hanger is welded to the bend just before the I-pipe that runs the length of the driveshaft.

Yes auto and manual cat hangers are in fact different.

Here we go.... I suppose I need to tell the whole story...

The original cat on the car was cut off, along with the flange it connects to, by one of the previous three owners. It was replaced by a test pipe, which was welded to the end of the intermediate pipe on one end and properly installed on the y-pipe end. The other end of the intermediate pipe was welded into the Flowmaster 80 series muffler that is still in place, and had to be cut off to be replaced with my "new" set of pipes. So, to pass inspection, I went out and bought a direct fit cat. However, I discovered that to install the cat, I had to cut the flange ball off. I saved the hanger flange part and threw out about a 6" length of pipe from that end of the cat.

When I went out and bought the hanger, it was bought from a junkyard. I don't know whether it was pulled from a manual or auto car, but I think the guy told me the car had a manual trans. At the same time, I was given a gutted cat that appeared to have been a universal type that was modified with a stock flange ball that needed to be replaced due to being misshapen and rusted.

Now, as soon as I can get a picture, I will take a couple of pics of the current install. Right now, I can say that I believe I need to reverse the cat hanger flange on the replacement flange so I can tuck the pipes up underneath a little tighter...

:edit: Oh, and approximately how much clearance should I have between the cat and the heat shield?

Sounds like it may be wiser to just go get a replacement "Y" pipe at wrecking yard along with the correct hanger.
