THE FUEL FILLER NECK SOLDER JOINT CAN DEVELOP CRACKS OR PIN HOLE LEAKS, WHICH DOES NOT COMPLY WITH FMVSS NO. 301, "FUEL SYSTEM INTEGRITY." THE CRACKS AND HOLES CAN ALLOW FUEL VAPOR AND FUEL LEAKAGE.
now what i need to know is is this gonna be a big project i dont wanna drop the rear end
anyone?

First it depends upon what year your f-body is. The '91 and '92s are covered under a recall. The fix is free (maybe '90s also?)
If you want to drop the tank yourself (or need to), the rear does not need to come out. Only needs to be lowered a tad. This is accomplished by unbolting the lower shock mounts.
The gas tank is easy to drop out. OTOH, some folks have fixed this issue with epoxy. Just mix up some of the thin stuff and 'paint' it around the filler neck to tank area.
I suggest a search on the General/Engine board. Lots of info on this problem, and on R&R'ing the tank.

Maybe this is the gas smell on my car then. didnt know 91/92 had this issue. Wonder how to tell if specific car was fixed under the recall?

Some neck/tank joints leak so bad the fuel stains can be seen running down the tank.

1-800-222-1020 is GM Consumer Hot Line number.
They can answer you recall already honored questions.
Have VIN ready before calling & possibly expect some holding time to speak to a human.

I think permatex makes a gas tank sealer putty. Try that before jbweld, just because it might hold up better to fuel.
