Does anyone know what this thing is, its right over my battery from the driver side, also, where does its hose connect to??? (the picture might be hard to see, but hopefully someone would know what ball IM talking about) Here are two pictures, the first one is hard to tell, but i'll point it out, the second is the loose hose from the wierd ball.

i mean the intake plenum, but when you open your hood and look at your motor the thing that the air intake goes into, at the back of there should be a t fitting. check for that

In the picture there is a spot were the hose from the power booster goes to and then another vacuume line goes on the other side. It connects to that but you need a part its not a T fitting it has some function to it but i dont know the name just what it looks like. Thats were the Vac fitting will go to. You just need the missing part.

That is the Schreader valve on the fuel rail. That is where you would attach a fuel pressure gauge to check your fuel pressure.
That small hose on the tee on the back of the plenum (your arrow crosses it) is where the hose to the check valve should go, and then from the check valve to the orb.
Looks like there is a hard plastic line on the tee in your photo? Where does that go? Also where does that other hose to the right of your arrow go? (you've got a 3.1, my 2.8 doesn't have that second hose all by itself in the back of the plenum)

when I replaced my battery tray, I broke this and have never installed it back.
I can still use all my vac options just fine.

I triple checked that area in the picture and I do not see the check valve... I'll take a better picture of it when I get a chance, my camera phone is a piece of crap when it comes to taking digital pictures...

Someone may have taken it off at one point in your cars life. Just go to the GM dealer they run like 5 dollars.

since you are doing this anyway you might as well replace those lines. napa sells "windshield washer hose" that is the same as vaccume line stuff.
here is a photo i made (real board today)

My vaccums line are really different, from the orb, it connects to this thing.
And notice, u'll see a T connector, I figured out dat they just put an extra vaccum hose. So, do I really need a check valve in my case. Since my org connects to dat thingy.

The "thingy" is your cruise control servo.
Look at Xophertony's drawing (nice job) and you'll see how the hoses and tees etc. should run.
