bad hesitation sometimes dying....

been a while since i've been on the boards....
my mom's 88 firebird is causing trouble again. she has the 2.8l and its been hesitating bad at times to the point where it dies when stopped at a light or a sign. we changed the egr, redid alot of the vacuum hoses, new distributor cap, plugs and wires, i cleaned and reset the iac, new fuel filter, and new o2 and i think thats it. Im wondering if fuel injectors are the problem or there is still a vacuum leak somewhere, or a sensor went bad (maf, tps seems fine, map but i dont think the 6's had one cuz of the maf i dont remember) or what but this one has me confused. no black smoke, no white smoke no blue smoke, and the only codes it threw were 34 and 44, and the one was the egr if i remember. Im just wonderin if anyone has any ideas on this, im kinda stumped. thanx for your time guys.

PS. i miss having more than 4 cylinders in front of me

might be timing. I had the same problem it turned out to be my timing was slipping off.

thats what i thought.... i checked with the est going and it was off the scale (of course) and disabled est and it was hovering around 8-10* advanced (dont remember) and increased with engine speed. engine has about 40k since rebuild, and i think timing chain and sprockets were redone (i dont see why not). Im thinkin injectors since i dont think they were changed (except the one that blew) when the engine was redone.... ill check timing again, any other thoughts until then?
Thanx
Chris

Just try resetting the ecm. Disconnect the battery and then disconnect the ecm wire in the rear of the engine on the passenger side. Keep it off for 2 mins or so and then reconnect the ecm wire and connect the battery. Let me know when you get it running right

little less info, the bird dies only at this point? I mean when you stop somewhere? does it need more fuel? engine runs smooth? If no leakes, it could be the ECM, you maybe need a new prom.

Borrow fuel pressure guage to see IF...
And coil could be culprit, too!

yeah ecm wasn't the problem, reset it, and same thing. after i hooked everything back up, the engine seemed to run for like 5 seconds and tried dying out and only think that kept it running was revving it and it barely hesitated up to the rpm some of the time and revved fine others, like there was an on/off switch goin to everything, every 5 or so seconds..... any ideas? plan on finding f.i. testers and a fuel pressure gauge this week....
