Wont start, replaced cap / router
Wont start, replaced cap / router
I have a 1988 camaro RS, a while back ago i was having problems with it running (it turned out to be a spark cable that was frayed and started flashing) and i replaced the cables and plugs and then it wouldn't start (was about 5 months ago). I've finally found the time to try to **** with it again. So i get it try to crank the engine over and it just cranks, so i pull out a plug and see if it sparks (5 months ago when i gave up on it because of work / college issues i used to spark just fine). now it doesn't do anything, i replaced the coil and center piece, it was all nasty inside. and still no spark, i was thinking that it could be the ignition coil, but i'm not sure. It seemed that it wouldn't start up 5 months ago because there wasn't enough fuel to the engine, but i'm not starting to think thats not the case. when i pulled out the plug there was a nice smell of gas and there was some fluid on the plug. Any ideas on what it is? thanks!

fouled/corroded plug not firing due to lack of/no spark. Is it the same gas that was in it 5 mos ago?

YOU NEED TO EITHER REPLACE THAT GAS, OR (stupid cap locks) or put in some additive to help burn that crap. trash gas doesn't help all that well w/carbs, and probably isn't all that good for fuilies either.
Also verify fp while you're troubelshooting. helps eliminate things as you go.

well... gas isn't really what i'm trying to fix, it's the fact that i don't have any spark to get anything to ignited. replaced the distributer, center piece, was thinking it could be the ICM or something. I don't have spark on the main wire coming from the ignition coil doesn't fire (was using a plug tester). so lets start from there.

ok, unsing a dvm or line voltage checker, verify you're getting 12v+ to the distibutor (wishes his service manuals were accessable right now for wire to check
)
edit: icm are easy to check, just make sure to regoop it when putting back on
