why when im at idel, the a/c stops working right??

Car: only GM,88 camaro, 91r/s camaro, 91
Engine: Clean oil, looks fresh, no leaks
Transmission: Bright Red, never burnt, no leaks
Axle/Gears: currently whining
why when im at idel, the a/c stops working right??
when im driving it works pretty good as it should then some times if im idel for a few it will stop being cool and has the lil sent of not working?

Engine: 3.1...not hardly stock
Transmission: 700r4....not stock either
Axle/Gears: 3.73
it should still work at idle. does the car idle too low when the compressor tries to come on, or what? just let the car idle with the air turned on, pop the hood and watch the clutch on the compressor to see if it kicks off and on.
