Update:
I heard back from Karls wife. She has recieved college donations in place of flowers for her son. She is willing to accept cards, and donations.
She also needs a new pc to sell some of items they were selling on ebay. Any help on this will be appreciated. I do not want to post their address on public forums. If you would like to send something, please PM me or post a request for the address and I will pm you.

Maybe we can all chip in some and buy her a dell they are only 299.99. All the computers i have are P166. I would like her to have something new. Dale if you talk to his wife let her know i will help her sell stuff on ebay if she needs it or if she needs any help on the weekends. I dont know her email address and i dont know what i did with Karl's number. So if you can ask her if she needs help tell her i will lend a helping hand. I met her on 2 occasions along with his son. I hope she keeps the camaro he had in his grague it was his dream to have his son rideing in it one day.

fastrs, PM sent.
As for a pc. They had a macintosh. I'm not sure if they want to stay that way, or go to IBM format. Not sure she would really know the difference. For their sons school stuff on it, I kinda lean towards IBM format as its alot more out.
I'm up for cash to buy a new one. Or I have a few spare parts around, and more then happy to build one and ship it out.
I have:
p4 board
36x cd drive (no burner, no dvd)
cables
floppy drive

I just spoke with dell I got some person in india so that was of no help. Total came to 492 which is different then what was on the website they said they dont have the 299.99 promotion any more. I think my school has a deal with Dell where we get like 10% off when i go tomorrow night i will get the information. But we are half way there.

Kirk offered 50.00 so we need about 200.00 more i calculated we are at 285.00.
Now i was asked by Kirk and 89V6FBIRD about sending money what i was thinking of doing once we have enough cash to go and buy the computer you can send it to me VIA PayPal and I will go ahead and get the computer "If any one has any objections or suggestions let me know" I want to wait until we have enough people welling to chip in so we dont hit 350.00 and am 130 short and not know what to do with the money that was collected. If all comed down to it we can just send his wife a check individualy "SP" but i think the surprise of a computer would be better. Now if we do go the paypal route is there a way that they wont take there 2% cut or what ever it is?

if you use a paypal account that doesnt accept credit cards then they dont take a %. when you upgrade to a premier account they take a 3% cut.

I'd also be interested in donating, whether for a PC or just to help Karl's family. Damn, I don't show up for a while here and this is the LAST thing I expected to see.
From a computer guy, who does this every day: Dells are great and I love them, but they are overpriced. The local Best Buy might have a better deal for her.
Current dell offerings:
1. Dell.com
2. Click Home & Home Office, middle "left" of screen
3. Top right of next screen, "Desktops"
4. Pick the computer to the right (you may have to scroll to the right)- Dimension 3000 Celeron
5. Then, all the way to the right- $399.
OR- Go to http://www1.us.dell.com/content/topi...&~topic=evalue and put in code 6V588-D30CSAP to see it.
Celeron 2.4 Ghz processor, WinXP home, 256 MB ram, 40 gig fast hard drive, CD burner, keyboard/mouse and 17" normal monitor.
It's not a computer for hardcore users (programming or gaming) but it'll do perfect for the 'net.
Did anyone set up a PayPal account?

I am almost thinking of just haveing the money sent to her directly so she can buy the computer and save on shipping maybe at bestbuy or something. So basicly each of us will send her a check cash etc? Does this sound ok?

Wow, i was wondering why i haven't heard from him. Ifinally got my bonus, and karl helped me so much, so i can send her as much as she needs to get a brand new computer, so if someone can email me at kuykensa@kennedy.navy.mil with her phone number, so i can call and get the address i need to send her the money it would be much appreciated. i can't believe that karl was killed, i feel like i have lost a friend and father, cause he was always giving me help like my dad does. i wonder if they are gonna stay in cali, or go back to pennsylvania like karl wanted to do.
we lost a good man that day.....
