Do I need a new computer if I swap in a 3.4?

I was talking to my mechanic and he was telling me that I need a new computer. Is this true?

No, it is not true.

Just swap over your intake and accessories and the 2.8 ECM will work fine.

read up on KED85s (miss you) tech article on the 3.4 swap and youll learn a lot about this swap. then do a search and read up on any of the long posts. you reuse the 2.8 intake, fuel rail, timing cover, oil pan(optional depending on what year i think), use the 3.4 flywheel, balancer, injectors. check out the tech article, thatll answer most of your questions. the rest should be answered by a good thorough search. trust me, ive been there, i believe i was only the second to swap a 3.4 into a manual, and the other guy was no longer on the boards when i did it.
