New 2.8 maf = garbage
hi, thisis my first tech post here, my 86' 2.8 threw a code 33 and 34, so i replaced the MAF and it ran worse than it did with the bad maf in there, the old one threw the ses light, but it ran ok, the reman. delco MAF has threw a code twice while driving and went away, upon start up, it it idles on the verge of stalling(500rpm) and lopes like I have a massive cam in it. All of this and no SES light. Does the MAF have to be relearned by the ecm. i left the batt. disconected for about a while to clear the trouble codes as suggested by a mechanic at my work and drive lightly for 5-10 miles and it should clear up. This was yesterday, and it still idles like trash. it drives fine though. any ideas, this is really pissin me off to the point where i want to switch to a MAP

When you go back to exchange it, make sure and say yes you unhooked the battery. autozone said they would not repalce it unlees I unhooked my batt before installin the new MAF. Same
thing goes for unhooking it.
some say it doesn't matter but for to be able to exchange the parts, it just might.
Though how long did the car had a bad maf?
could someone of monkey'ed with other stuff to make it run better with it bad.

for the old maf try taking a qtip and with water lightly clean the yellow film inside of the maf on both sides
if you can return the new maf i would, but alot of electronics cant be returned as they cant test them.
whenever i go to the wrecker i look for mafs its always good to have spares

well, i cant play with the old one because i had to exchange it as a core., i threw a code for it during the summer, and i cleaned it w/ some CRC electrical component spray, worked fine till this Sat. i can return the new maf no problem, i used to work at that NAPA store as a driver during the summer, and still do when they are short handed(get parts as cost, woot!), but it seems to clear up after driving for a while, but when i shut it off and then go drive it agian, its all f'd up, i may scan it tmrw at my uncles shop if i have some time, have a friend drive and ill see what the maf is doin.
