Starter trouble
This is a 91 RS with the V6. It was running fine then the starter stopped working. No click, no nothing. I have power to everything else (lights radio etc) and the battery is charged and has good clean connections. When I put the key in and turn it to the start position the security light comes on for a second or two and goes out. Any suggestions for a person with limited mechanical ability? Is there a way to test the starter without pulling it?
Thanks

Try looking at the fuse panel, find the VSS and ECM fuse and try pulling those for 5minutesish and then plugging them in and starting it. Mine does it every so often, just actually did EXACTLY what your describing on a day when it was below 0 out, it eventually started. Pulling those fuses hadn't worked that time but maybe it'll work for you. It has solved the problem before...

OK, I tried the fuses and had no luck. I crawled under the dash (no easy task for a fat man) and did hear a little click behind the drivers kick panel. So does that mean that the security relay is working? I am betting that it is the starter. I looked at it and the place where the wires connect to it is lose. Not the wires but the entire piece where the wires connect. The terminals come out of a piece of round black plactic and that piece, terminals and all can be rotated from side to side about 1/2 inch. I am no mechanic but I assume that aint good.

jack up the car, tighten the wires, be careful cause you can ground the starter against whatnots under there and get a nice spark and potentially shock yourself. Make sure the car is very stable and try starting the car with it on the jackstand. If it still doesn't start then take a screw driver and ground the bendix drive to the positive lead on the starter and see if the starter goes that way...think I explained that correctly...

I had the same symptoms everyonce and a while. The VATS chip in my key wasnt making a good enough connection. I would turn the key and the SES light would lite up but it never turned over.
Its probubly not the same but I thought Id throw it out there.

I thought about that. But when I turn the key the security light comes on for a second or two and then goes out. I was told that was the way it was suppose to work if it was OK. The security light should stay on if it is not working Is that not correct?
thanks
