Adjusting TV Cable... HELP

Car is a 92 Camaro, TH700-R4, 3.1 V6, 130,000 miles

My hanes manual instructs that anytime the TV cable is dissconnected from the throttle body, it needs to be adjusted. The process it describes is pushing the cable housing into the adjustment slider(I assume this means twords the front of the car) while holding down the metal tab. This slider is mounted on the inside of the front, driverside runner on the upper plenum. It then says to open the TB to the full throttle stop and the cable will atomatically ratchet and readjust itself.

Ok, I followed those instructions to a Tee and now it shifts like crap. First gear winds to the moon before it shifts, and all the other shifts are so soft you can barley feel them.

What am I doing WRONG?
Please help.....
Max

Just realized I posted in the wrong section...

Yes that's what Haynes says in the newer editions, but its wrong.
Reset the cable towards the firewall. I just did mine and it did'nt ratchet back towards the front. If you have the same problem, you might have to set it manually and take it for a few test drives. The ratchet portion of the cable will extend out about 1/4" or so from the cable stop at the bracket.

Yeah, I was prepared to do manual adjustment if I had to. Just would rather it adjusted itself if ya know what I'm sayin.
