cold start help

92 rs starts up just fine. but won't stay started. when it stays started. it stalls in gear. when it warms up a little fine in gear till you push the gas then just spits sputters and backfires a few times then runs just fine. if i hit a stop light same thing till the eng heats up so about 15min on avg. it thetre a eletronic choke on the 92 3.1 v6? no vac leaks at all just a real low idle. can any one help me with this.

Well, I'm not sure, but my 2.8 in my Fiero has a cold start injector. If your 3.1 has it, it is most likely bad. Just my .02

2.8s have a CSI, but not the 3.1s. Chack to make sure that the IAC passages are clean and that the minimum air rate is set correctly. One thing that you can do is to have someone turn the key on when it's cold and you put your hand on the IAC motor. If it doesn't feel like it's vibrating a little, it's not working and should be replaced.

A lot of the time the IAC motors fail when cold because they need to open way up for cold idle but can't amke it that far, but once the car si warm, they act just fine because they don't have to mive as much.
