V6, 3.1 '92 Firebird emissions question

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...1&d=1149007455 I have a new (to my garage) '92 Firebird. The engine was rebuilt and exhaust re-done from collectors on back by the former owner. The emissions have been severed and the cuts melted shut between sensors and devices in almost every place I can see. I also plan to remove the air pump as outlined in the TGO tech. article. I would like to know if this style of cut and seal removal works for the emission devices ok or is it going to screw up the ECM function? I plan on ordering and installing a Crane performance ignition system in it as well and want it to work ok with the ECM. Also I'm wondering if after the air pump is removed if it is best to not run the cat. converter? It is new looking and I'm not sure if it is hollow or is a functioning converter. The pipe from the air pump is hanging next to the exhaust near the cat. but is not hooked up to anything in the exhaust line. Can anyone tell me what I will want to remove or disengage to free my 3.1 from the power stealing, life robbing emission system?? I also have the dreaded, (and well noted in TGO V6), hesitation when the accelerator is pressed!!!

Belt Size/Belt routing??

Does anyone know what replacement belt size and routing will be needed for removal of the smog pump on a '92 3.1 with A/C The tech article is for a diff. application.

What emission devices are you planning on removing? If you remove the EGR, note that it will throw a code. You would have to modify the PROM and disable the EGR function.

Depending on where you are you might not want to remove stuff if you need emissions testing.

Why do you want to remove it? It won't give you any power gains.

I live in Florida - no testing. Like I had stated most all appear to have been severed already. I want to take off the air can with MAT so I can put a high flow K&N on the stock intake. (see my thread on V6 air mod) I want the smog pump off because the pipe just hangs beside the exhaust and rattles and the pump doesent need to be there spinning creating resistance and weight for absolutely no reason at all.

Well, you won't be able to remove the MAT since the ECM uses it for fuel delivery. Anything that's ECM controlled or used as a sensor, leave there because you'll probably get a SES light if you unplug it.

You will have to jury rig seomthing for the MAT sensor, but it shouldnt be too hard.

Well, after thorogh inspection under the hood, the only things that look to be shut off are the two vacum lines that come off of the intake manifolds vacum harness. I believe these two lines control the evaporative emission purge valve and the other is the air pump control switch. I don't think these need to be connected as long as I plug them properly. All sensors and wiring still apear to be in-tact. When I remove the old air filter can, it looks like I can remove the MAT sensor and re-install somewhere in the stock intake tube near the new air filter I will be putting in. I am still interested in cleaning up under hood by removing that air pump! Does anyone have the specs for a replacement belt and re-routing detail for the 3.1 L ???
