Just got my first Camaro
I just wanted to say hello to everyone. My name is Grant and I just picked up my Camaro on June 8. This is going to be the first American made car that I will have owned in my life. Note only that but I also bought this 1989 Camaro with T-tops for $500 dollars.
My reason for getting are as follows. First I love Chevy and I can not stand Ford, everyone here has a Mustang and I absolutely hate them. Secondly I am a tall guy. I am 6'5" and I am tired of these damn small cars that I can not even fit into because my legs get cramped terribely.
I have worked on cars now for about 4 years and I have rebuilt two engines and built one engine. Until now I have been a Volkswagen person. I rebuilt my 1990 Jetta engine that I blew and I trade that car for my 1974 Super Beetle which I currently still own, however the engine I built for it did not pan out as well as I had hope for.
I am getting a 1989 Camaro with a 2.8 V6 with the automatic transmission. The car is blue with a gray interior and T-tops. I actually bought the car not running, it needs an oil pump. I figure that engine will probabely need to gone through which is fine by me, but I am going to slap a oil pump in it and go.
The reason is that my buddy you got me into cars, has rebuilt a ton of engines before and he has a another 2.8 V6 sitting around and we are going to rebuild that and eventually put that engine into the camaro. I do not want a V8 for to reason, first horsepower, I like to drive fast and I do not think at the age of 21 that I am ready for that much horsepower when I have only be use to 100 and also gas milage.
Actually I was hoping someone can give me a good website to buy good yet reasonable performace parts for the 89 Camaro, I really do not know about American Performace Parts, I just know alot about imports which I am desperately trying to get out of.
Here is my Camaro:

Thanks

sadly, theres not a whole lot of profromance parts for the 2.8l v6, your better off swaping in a 3.4l v6 out of a 93-95 camaro. I know i'm going to be doing that as soon as i can get the cash.

Welcoe the the boards and the light side lol
For your camaro.... I would get all the performance suspension parts your can buy first. That way, no matter what you do with the engine you still have the upgraded suspension. Second, if you want to keep the v6, find a cheap 3.4 block, rebuild that with some goodies, and drop it in. If you want to have even more power, look into PROM burning and put a mild turbo on it. If you want MORE power, ditch the stock ECM and go with an ECM which can handle more boost.
Hope this helps

plenty of performance parts for your car, go to summitracing.com, and search using your car and engine size, get a nice mandrel bent cat back, then a high flow cat if you want to do that at all, get some k&n filters, summit also has pulleys, pacesetter headers, injectors, chips, cam-lifter-pushrods and timing sets, take off the head, clean them up give them a valve job, maybe porting? summit also has shift kits for the 700r4, id prefer transgo over b&m, upgrade your rear end gears to 3.73 for a little more off the line umph, i havent done it but it seems it would be really easy to port the intake, plenty of meat there---------this above is what i plan to do with my car....goodluck...

, and a Ford Winstar (what a piece of *&#$%). I have also had a chance to look at most of them and I would say 80% of them are V6. What I really hate are that some people are beginning to rice their Mustangs . . . . . I just hate them. Last edited by grantscamaro; Jun 13, 2006 at 08:48 AM.
