My sons new ride!
My sons new ride!
Okay, 5 days ago the teenage boy bought his first car an 88 camaro with a 2.8l, nice looking and mildly cheap. He doesnt know alot about cars but is wanting to learn. Example of his mechanical knowledge, I ask for a straight slot and he brings me a philips. Regardless, he wants to learn. I on the other hand have worked as a mechanic for 21 years mostly airplanes, but am comfortable around cars. The kid wants a loud kick *** sound from his stock 2.8l, however Dad doesnt want to take the time to install headers. or the blood shed on the hands. So I remeber the sound I could get with my old beloved cherry Bomb, but the boy wants his neet little dual exhaust look out the back. I checked underneath and the car has a performance cat on it. I believe a standard one pipe in two out muffler.
Will a cherry bomb turbo one in two out give a close sound of thier orignal glass pack, or would he be better with a flowmaster 40 series, I just want to help him to achieve the sound of pissing off the neighbors for minimal cost and effort. Thanks Dad!

At idle, several mufflers will give the v8 sound, however very few when driving above 2000 rpm still sound that way.
The sound of my system changed very little when I put the headers on. Its mostly the muffler, size of pipes(dia and length), and material.
I belive the deepest sound will come from a flowmaster (forget what series) and actually making the exit pipes a bit smaller (like 2"??).
I have the dynomax, sounds good at idle, but as I said, upper rpms you make no mistake knowing its not a v8.

i have the dynomax as well, so do a lot of others on here. gives a nice lil performance upgrade as well as sound. and to the average person, they arent gonna know its a v6. ive had lots of people shocked that i have a v6. anyone who knows cars will know its a 6, but its way better than stock. for the price and not having to cobble any of this or that together, its worth the money. i think mine from summit was $220 shipped.
Thanks guys for the input,
He decided on the flowmaster 80 series, guess where installing that tonight, ha beats the hassle of installing the headers and it should make him happy. Looking forward to helping him with this car though I miss my old 74 camaro at times ha-ha!
thanks again
