New Mass Airflows won't work
New Mass Airflows won't work
I have a 86 2.8l Camaro Check Engine light is on for the MAF sensor. I've bought 3 different brands of sensors, and each time I put the new one in, idle is horrible and theres absolutely no power behind the engine, sounds like its struggling not to die. Could it be the computer not liking the new sensor? I'm pretty sure the computer is stock. I've had 2 different mechanics look at it, if any of you guys are in orlando, I'm sure you know Randy's autobody, that was the second place i took it too and they were stumped. Anyways, thanks for any suggestions you guys got, hope you can help me fix it.

sounds like your comp is not relearning the new sensor try unhooking the battery and then ad the sensor and hook the batery back up also somtimes once you replace somthing and wonder why the light has not stoped coming on is because the comp needs to be reset , and you do that by disconecting the battery., if the sensor is indeed working i would assume there is somthing wrong with your linkage of you trottle cable,. or the screw it sits on,..,also are you sure you dont have plug wires crossed or a vacum leak
what code # is it exsactly spitting out?? it could mean two or more things

34 I think, but I already changed out the relay and fuse, and 33 went off(or 34, which would make the code i have now 35, can't exactly remember) The check engine light goes off once i put in the sensor, I don't have any vaccum leaks as far as I know, not sure about the throttle body though. The plug wires aren't crossed, I have them neatly tied up to prevent that problem.

try twisting the wire harness to the maf like spinning it like a twizzler, it may be the wireing in the harness going to the maf, or the coupler on that harness.

Tell ya what guy, when I bought mine at AZ they said you you don't unhook your battery first, they wont warranty it. They said when ever ya unplug or plug the sucker in both cables need removed form the batt, not just the neg.
There is no solid proof why but there must be something valid to it, if they make sure and tell everyone that.

Find out exactly what the code is, I bet it's code 34 and that's caused by a vacuum leak 99% of the time. I had a hell of a time tracking that one down just recently even though I preach the importance of checking for vacuum leaks all the time. I was changing the A/C Compressor out and I knocked the purge line off and the line hung down just enough that I couldn't see the end, so when I did a quick visual of the area, I didn't see it.
Make 100% sure that you don't have any leaks ANYWHERE downstream of the MAF, or you'll be replacing perfectly good sensors.
