I am needing the upper replacement bushings for the doors in an 84 TA. Where can I get them? I aslo need the lower pin with the roller on it. Thanks. I've already cut the upper bushings out and I need them now. The guy at O'reilys told me they were the right ones. They're not!

I think they run about $80 per side. I think you get the 2 upper bushings AND the lower...check it out

 

First, do a search. This has got to be in the top ten issues with these cars.

The top hinge is not servicable. It shouldn't need to be repaired unless the bottom bushing/pin has been neglected for a very long time.

The bottom hinge is typical to various GM applications. Any GM dealership should have the pins and bushings on the shelf. The door hinge spring will need to come out, the specific tool for that purpose is about $10 and makes life easier.

After replacing the bottom hinge pin/bushing if your door still hangs low but moves smoothly, the hinges are likely tweaked from age. Repeated opening/closing, people leaning on the doors, gravity, etc slowly work to pull the doors down fatiguing the hinges. You can buy, rent, steal, or borrow the specific tool for bending the hinges back up, or you can put a 2x4 on top of a floor jack, open the door and place the jack under the door furthest from the hinge (below the exterior door handle). Jack up on the door a few strokes, then let it down and test the door. Work slowly till it closes easily without catching on GFX or the striker. Make sure that all the bolts at the hinges are tight and it should be maintenence free for a good while.

Edit: the pins and bushings should cost less then $10 for both doors. The roller bearing is available, and it's fairly inexpensive, however it's not easily removed from the car, and if it's worn badly enough that it obviously needs to be replaced, it's likely the pin it rides on is worn also. A new hinge might be your best option.

Ebay sells the bushing and pins for real cheap as well and they come with both the standard bushing as well as the larger bushing in case your hinge is hollowed out a lil.

 

Dude, those are the same bushings and pins that Pep Boys and Autozone sells, some people think that e-bay is the only place to buy anything

 

lol I didn't say anything about it being the only place to buy them! I only said you CAN buy them from there. It was only a suggestion. Sorry to offend you by saying the Ebay word lol


Also some people dont have a pep boys or Autozone nearby (me being one of them) so chill a bit before the bashing starts.

 

napa, autozone sells all the bushing for like 6-7bux.

but im buying the TDS piece caz I'd like an upgrade not a replacement and hopefully never worry about doors again..
