3.4 update: a few minor probs, but should be done tomorrow

I pretty much just need to plug in/ route a few more wires and connectors, a few of which I can't locate where they came from. ( yeah, I didn't quite label everything) Also can't find connector for oil sensor down by filter, but I'll figure it out.

Finish connecting tranny/ oil cooler lines, coolant lines, mount steering pump and compressor, fill up the fluids, and then comes the fun part of starting and monitoring everything. (engine and tranny have just been rebuilt.)

Would've had it done today, but after gunshow and target shooting I started feeling kinda sick once I finally started on it, so I didn't get much done.

I also need to figure out what to do with the sensor hole in the block at the front of the intake manifold. If it was threaded I'd just screw something in, but it's a smooth hole with a hold-down bolt hole. I have a sensor that will work I think to plug it, but I need to make sure it won't hit something inside.

Ran into a few problems with header clearance, but I managed to modify things to make them clear everything.

I'm sure I'll run into a few more problems. Hopefully they won't be major.

the sensor at the front of the intake manifold, .. sounds like the cam sensor. did you take it out, or was it gone when you got it? if you took it out, put it back in, theirs your plug.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is that the 3.4 oil sending unit sticking out by the driver side header??? I'm pretty sure it's not going to work (wouldn't w/my 85 harness). I had to reuse my 2.8 oil filter adaptor on the 3.4 block to get the sender & fuel pressure cut off to plug in.

Just remove old, make sure ALL old gasket material is gone (me & a aouple other peeps who did this experinced massive oil pee from that). Use gasket p/n: 12337894, about $3 from dealership, for this.

looks good. i also like the "2.8" logo still present on the top of the intake.

question: why are you still running the throttle body warmer?

The TB warmer is hooked up again for the moment because I just haven't found something to loop it yet. I'll get to it sooner or later.

The hole in the block isn't present on the 2.8 block. That's why I need to figure out something to install.

Well, it's now 10am. I didn't get to sleep until 4am after playing "eve of destruction". 19yr old senile cat kept meowing from around 8am on. My stomach hurts a little and I'm tired.

Wish me luck, I'm off to go work on it again.

here's the hole I'm talking about, and the sensor that might have gone there, but I'm not sure.

Yep ended up sticking sensor in for now.

Got it ready to crank over and had no power at all. Forgot to hook up +battery wire at starter.

Cranked over and built up oil pressure, then noticed a huge puddel of oil under car. Oil filter housing was leaking right where that little alignment pin goes into the block.

I had used the 3.4 housing with an adapter for the sensor, but the gasket set came with 3 different gaskets. I don't know if the surface wasn't clean enough, or I had the wrong gasket, or what. I'm trying the 2.8 housing this time, but I couldn't get the wire reconnected and was getting pretty mad.

My dad (who is helping me with all this) came up with the idea of quiting for the night. It was a good idea.

The tv cable is making me nervous too. The throttle travels about 1/4 inch farther than the cable goes. I need to call the tranny place before I go out there and make sure it will be good enough to drive out there for them to fine-tune it.

Anyway, see what happens tomorrow night after work.

check teh tech articles on setting the tv cable (if you haven't already)

as for the leaking oil at teh filter, my old gasket didn't come off when I pulled it, so that's why it leaked. your old one may still be there, hanging on.

will u actually gain more throttle response looping the throttle body coolant. i just might make it so i can loop it in the summer if this is correct and hook it back up for the winter cause i live in canada well like 15 minutes from detriot but it still gets pretty cold

Oh yeah, the leak was coming from the hole right above the filter housing. right where I should have noticed a hole and put a plug, but didn't.
