Okay, my 3.1's engine is bone stock! That's something I want to change! I have a budget of $1000.00. Within that budget, can you guys make suggestions to get the most out of my 6'er? Thanks.

depending on the miles your current engine has on it, replace it with a 3.4.

Thanks. I'm not too knowledged in the inner workings of the engine, however my dad is a mechanic. Can you give me links to each of the things you'd reccommend? Also, what is porting the cylinder heads?

dose the 3.1 flow enough air to need a 3 inch exhaust? N/A is should be fine with 2.5 I would think...

u will lose some low end tq with the 3inch,but if u have a nice cam it makes more hp up high
2.5 inch is good size as well.lil less low end tq loss but not as much of a gain on the upper end hp

hey check out the sticky at the top of this forum the parts list sticky u can find links to many parts there.
porting is grinding away at sections of the cyl head to make them flow air better.ported heads/intake and cam will make the biggest difference in power in the v6 engine, other then nitrous and or a supercharger or turbo

I would have to agree with Dale on this 1. I just did the 3.4 swap and I love the difference. I just took it on the 1st road trip and I can't complain. Its stock so I'm not sure if I will do any mods just yet but you can notice the power difference. If anything I'll do the cam and catback but that will be it. If you can catch a good deal on the 3.4 would strongly suggest it. I had just rebuilt me 2.8 and found the 3.4 for $150 a deal I couldn't pass up.

Anyway good luck on whatever you do.

How hard is the 3.4 swap? Hopefully not anything as tedious as a swap to a V8 because if that's the case I might as well do that. What vehicles should I look for a 3.4 from?

I got mines from a guy that was swapping in a 3.8 in his 94 camaro. All I changed was the motor mounts, oil filter housing, and top 1/2 of engine ( intake manifold, plenum, and fuel rail). I got the complete engine with the bells and whistles from power steering pump to the ac compressor so there wasn't much for me to swap over. If you just get the block of course there will be a lil more work. There is a nice post here on the swap done by KEDS85 (r.i.p.). Its very detailed and a good place to start. Just do a search for 2.8 to 3.4 swap and you should be good.
