Swapping cam w/motor in car

For those of you who have done this on a V6, what kind of problems will I run into? The Haynes manual says to remove the radiator, but it seems like there is enough room with just the fan removed. Any suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated...

I have the same question... 92 Camaro RS 3.1L... I was just going to change the lifters cause it sounded like a collapsed lifter.. BAD news.. Two lifters had worn bottoms and the lobes are in seriously bad shape... No choice, cam has to come out... Hoping the cam main bearings are good enough to just swap cams.. But, can the cam bearings be changed also without an engine pull????????????

If so it wouldn't be easy, they have to be pressed in.

Well, the answer for a Camaro is YES you can pull the cam without removing the radiator...... I pulled mine last night.. I didn't have to pull the radiator, I just unbolted the fan and dropped in down out of the way.. Had to spread the two AC pipes apart a little... Figured I needed about 16 inches of clearance for the cam and on my car with the fan out of the way you have about 17 to 18 inches..

Two of the cam lobes were worn to about half their normal height.. Others had some scoring but not worn like those two.. Can't see too much of the inner bearings but the bearing surfaces for those look pretty good on the camshaft... The front one shows a little scoring on the shaft and so does the bearing.. Thinking about just replacing the front bearing, cam, and lifters for now due to not having the bucks to do a full job... Hard part will be getting the cam into the rear bearing since it will have to be lifted to get it in there... Although I had 4 cylinders with 138 to 145 and two with 122 to 125 for compression, going to pressure check them tonight and if they hold pressure good, I will probably just do the cam and lifters for now..
