motor fan problem and e brake light

My motor fan wont start after about 5 mins when the car is running. Then the check engine light comes on. My dad tried to install and new motor fan, but it still doesn't start. What do you guys suggest we try next?
My e brake light also turns on when the e brake is off. My dad also tried to fix this too. He pulled off the console so we could see what was going on. There's a plastic piece that is supposed to carry a connection to the dashboard and it's not working. My dad tried messing around with it and trying to open and close the plastic piece and nothing happens
I really need some help considering I'm going to be driving this car as my first car and haven't even gotten to drive it on the road "legally" with my temps.

if u still need it check if you have enough voltage to turn the fan motor on.

your hand brake is probably stuck, does the light go off when you drive the car alot?

and check to see if you have voltage going to the fan and check to see if your connectors are good

Re: motor fan problem and e brake light

In regards to the brake light,it is also on when you have a brake pressure problem. You might want to check the rear wheel cylinders for fluid leakage. An easy way to tell if this might be the case is to disconnect the sensor on the proportioning valve. Make sure the e-brake is off and the light should be off too. If its still on, the problem is the e-brake switch.

For the SES light, pull the codes and let us know what they are.

For the fan, connect A and B on the ALDL just like you're pulling codes, this will force the fan on and you can start checking the circuit for power and ground.
