vid from the track today
just a reminder the car was far away from optimal track conditons specially with it wieghing in at almost 4,000 pounds
the 1/4 mile run in the vid was done with 0 burnout and also i did not load the converter i launched from a dead idle
the second pass is a total ****up and it spuin for a good 150+ ft.had i preped the car and done a few other things liek drive right i could have well been into the 14;s easy
watch and u will see

How fast you think you'd have been able to pull if you loaded the converter / were at race weight?

low low 14's,doward ran the same he went 14.x@ 99 i belive on a stock engine with a 16g turbo or it may have been a t61
the reason for not doing a burnout or loading the ocnverter on the 1/4 mile run is
i didnt have a firejacket, theres a new rule this season that any car with an non factory power adder, the driver must have an sfi firejacket.had i done a burnout they would have heard the turbo soolin up and same with loading the converter and i would have been kicked out of the track.
the 1/8th mile pass i had my black carhart coat on which looks like a firejacket so i was able to get away with it

yeah but its alot harder without it,this is just a bone stock engine same as it left the factory,i also dont know the condition its in internally, though a simple compression test and leakdown test could find out though, take the same runs i made today and add in a set of ported heads and cam and it would go way faster

Oh! Well then, that changes things. Nice! Lol. So you can do 14's with a bone stock motor. Good to know!
Well I guess I'll hurry up and put the turbo in before anything else and let you know how it does. My car is completely stock (except for 1.6 rockers) including the non-posi rear. Since I have the same turbo and one of your intercoolers, it should be comprable. In fact I could put it in before the MegaSquirt gets here. Were you using a FMU? The stock ECM should have been able to handle 7psi with the stock injectors, correct?

no i still have them, but i didnt feel like grenading the rear.im swaping out the 4:10's for the 3:42s later this week,IF i can ill make it back to the track on wensday or friday.the 24#'s wont go static witht hat low of boost(atleast not on a maf car.on the sd cars im unsure of what will happen) but it should be fine,
I've got the WBo2 installed so tuning will be much easier now. If I do the turbo install now (was going to wait for MS) it will give the guys a better idea of what your kit will do on a stock V6 car. I could even throw the stock injectors back in if requested, but 24#ers can be had cheap (used like mine). I'll start this week.

That was a good time Dave. Although I didn't run, I had a lot of fun both filming, and watching you do your thing. That's a solid low fourteen second performer you have there, in that very form (minus the weight, and with a better launch, of course). Lose the 4.10's, install some 3.42's, obtain a 60-ft of at least 1.8x, and up the boost "some", and you'll easily be in the 13 second zone. That's saying a lot, considering it's a bone stock 3.1......
Going back down this Friday night, gots me a little score to settle with one of the local racer's around here....

.
For the guys that want to know what the kit will do on a stock V6 car, SHOULD be less than 2weeks till it's in (with a stock ECM and 24# inj).

Hey Dave, just so I'm understanding this correctly, the stock ecm was controling the fuel? If so, thats awesome! I'd like to avoid using an FMU once I finally get my setup installed. Keep up the good work!

yeah that was a stock maf ecm,no fmu and 24# injectors.the only other thing i did was bump base ignition timing to 16*
I don't know.. It looks slow to me for having a turbo on it with 7 lbs boost and running 15's. I run in 15's right now on a factory longblock 2.8 that is naturally asperated in a 3rd gen camaroIn car link of braking and accelerating- Its an auto trans with 3.23 and a MPFI 2.8- http://www.zippyvideos.com/681124941...ilwaffarn_010/
With the timing at 16*, it has to be falling on its face on upper rpms- factory is 10*, I run mine at 13* to help pickup some lowend.

So how does that video prove anything? Welcome back Dean (I presume)

If you are familiar with cars speeds you can tell from the video it runs in about the 15 sec range. My point was it is natuarally asperated and doing about the same as the turbo video. I am puzzled why he is not at least into low 14's if not high 13's. and the car is not 4000 lbs even with him in it- more like 3500 even with a speaker box in the back.

I didnt mean to offend...dont get me wrong, you have a fast car. Its just a little hard to judge a 1/4 mile time buy a video of you on the road, when you dont even get to see your MPH.
Thank you. If you are not familiar with this car, here is a link to it on a Cardomain page- I have extensively built it solely as for the purpose as a daily driver for my wife- not a race car.http://www.cardomain.com/ride/518752/1
ps- My kart buggies are on page 10- I see own and like go karts

No offence taken or even thought. I stated above that the car is a 2.8 auto with 3.23 gears. You can clearly see me take off around the corner, scratch the tires slightly, I run very expensive grippy tires by the way as well as an Auburn Pro diff, I accelerate up through 1st and shift at about 6k, I have an extremely built tranny in this car also as well as a 4lb carbon fiber driveshaft, and then pull up to about 5000K within 9-10 seconds arfter leaving the stop where I level off and ready for the upcoming narrow left hand sweeper @ the 73mph I am traveling aprox when the video cuts out- 5 more seconds and I am easily in the mid 80mph range so the car easily does 15's in the 1/4. The drivetrain is extremely built, but for the most part the long block is a factory 2.8.

no offence hpe but how do u know what my car weighs, i weighed my car at the track right after the first pass and it is just shy of 4,000 pounds, with me in it, besides thos speaker boxes that are made out of 1" thick mdf, and the second marine battery, not to mention the back was also loaded with tools.
as run the car wieghs just under 3,750 without me, im just over 200 pounds.
i also never got a clean run,the only 1/4 mile pass i was able to make i launched form a dead idle, had i actually loaded up the converter (tci 3,500-4,000 stall) and spooled up the turbo , it would have been decently faster even with the extra weight in the car.
im gonna take all the extra crap out of the car and go for one more run this weekend, and ill also ditch the 4:10's for the 3:42's

First of all, I think everybody here needs to appreciate Dave's honesty. I was there, I filmed the runs, and I ran with him in the car (not down the strip). The car was weighed after the first run, and i can assure you that it weighs that much. It was also not prepped for the track, as he ran it with all of that stuff nestled inside. Heck, he even had that blue prototype intake in the back....
If you carefully inspect that 1/4 mile race again, Dave's sixty foot (although could have been much much better) totally annihilated that other car. However, within a few short seconds, the other car obviously caught up (when it shouldn't have). Those 4.10's need to go, and the car needs to be put on a diet. That, in my opinion, will catapult the car closer to the 13's, and that is very impressive for a bone stock 2.8....
I think people misunderstood what me and Dave were honestly doing over the weekend, and were expecting Dave to be racing EVO's, and raping the hell out of them. That's not the case. It was meant to showcase the turbo's ability to run with a stock as a rock engine, with the factory ECM. No megasquirt, no aftermarket H/I/C, moderate boost, and an engine that runs flawlessly....

Why so heavy?
First thing yank all that jute padding from under carpet, it just holds in moisture ans rust your car from the inside out.

HPE, sounds like you yourself definitely don't get to the track much. What exactly were you expecting? Even with the loss in weight, do you honestly expect the car to run a thirteen second pass that day, with a bone stock 2.8, huffing on a mere 8 pounds of boost....?
I mean, even if we did remove the weight that day, and the car ran a little faster, you'd obviously find something else to criticize, regardless. Some people simply go to the track just to have fun, as well as for some preliminary testing and tuning....
Dave is a stand up guy, as well as a very good friend. Could have been easy for us to manipulate the footage and have you believe that he ran faster than what he did, but there was absolutely no reason to. Nobody here (in reference to those of us present at the track that day) was honestly expecting a jaw dropping timeslip....
In reference to your "so called experienced racer" comment, was that really necessary? People exclaim, "heh, we can run those numbers without boost", yeah, but your not going to touch those numbers with a stock 2.8 engine. Other than larger injectors, that engine is bone stock, right down to it's exhaust manifolds, and stock tune. What the heck were you honestly expecting, even with a better launch lol....?

Why would anyone take a day to drive to the track, pay money to run- attempting to get the fastest time they could, and carry 600-700 extra lbs of crap in the car? Car weight is 3100 to 3200 lbs, you weight I'll aprox 200 lbs. So lets say 3400lbs max- thats 600 lbs of crap in the car? I question your common sense.
I can see that kiling your time, but why would you even attempt it without removing stuff- It doesn't add up if you are a so called experienced racer.
Just posting the obvious question that popped into my head reading this thread.

That sucked so badly. Stop with all the over blown production work, your not Lucas.
4hr download for 3 sec of racing and 8 mins of over produced crap.
Like the first 1;30 even needs to be there. We don't need to see you drive up and wait to race. Lame lame lame
Sorry but stop trying to make motion pictures out of track runs.
Just show the runs next time, take the hrs spent in movie editing on going faster.
Sorry Dave but that how i feel about any over blown work like that.
Save all that BS stuff for when you put down some real numbers.
Then toot your horn with over blown productions.

hmm 15's in a 4,000 pound car do the math thats about 230 rwhp +/- and around 290 fly wheel hp +/-
not bad for something thats internally stock/ecm never meant to run boost and only 5-7 psi,
lol it took a whole 5 mins to put the clips together i didnt do any editing, i just put them all together instead of having 4-5 diff clips.
and wtf 4 hours to dl it? that file is hosted on a dedicated webserver and on an oc-12 connection ( 622Mbs bi directional) so u must be on dialup. thats ur own fault then. next time ask for smaller clips
rob my mega squirt will be here next week along with my 40# injectors, but i have to send the converter back to tci and have it lossened up a bit i dont think the 3,600- 3800 stall i get out of it is gonna be enough for the tt motor.once the converteres back think i can get ya out to the shop to help me get the tt motor in,and the mega squirt up and running

That was a really good laugh, Gumby. Now, let's see your car take it down the 1/4 mile for an even better one lol....
Production work LMAO? Yeah, give CVS the credit for the George Lucas inspired "production" work. Paid thrity dollars for a lousy twenty minutes of footage, and if you bring it back with minutes left, that means minutes lost.
Sorry for the, as you so kindly put it, "BS" work, but this video was also intended for another forum as well. It was meant to show what Englishtown is like, for others contemplating an event that's being held this summer. The world doesn't revolve around you, bro...

Dave, I have off next weekend, and it looks to be very very good weather. You know I'll definitely help you install the other engine, as well as getting it tuned properly....
Don't listen to some of these rants bro. Enjoy your new baby, that's all that matters right now. Some were obviously expecting to see you better your 12.6, with an engine that was not only meant to get you around for the time being, but with a stock as a rock engine that displaced less cubic inches, running less boost...

hpe it was 5-7 psi, the needle in my boost gauge bounces back and forth so its hard to read. im actually not sure if my gauge is bad or if my wastegate is fluttering.im pretty sure my wastegate is fluttering though.think i may have damaged the diafram when i swaped out my high boost spring for the 6.63 psi spring. it never hurt anything so i never took it back apart to check it .
hmm knocking a full 3 seconds off a stock et not worth posting about

Dave and Street Lethal,
if you could hear me right now, you'd hear clapping because these guys have definitly come on here with nothing else to do but just be negative about stuff.
If you think something someone did is stupid and it's not anything that's going to ruin their lives or yours, then you don't need to spend the time typing it out. You'll get no benefit from it. Maybe he likes editing videos? Be it a full-blown production or a Windows MovieMaker job, he did it and it's done. The end. That's like you taking so much time to work on your car and someone just walks up to you and says "Why would you do that? It sucks."
If you think it's stupid that he went to the track with the extra weight, putting him down for it isn't changing his track time or yours.
I'm still downloading the video right now, even after reading your review.
Dave, Street Lethal, you both deserve more respect for just doing what it seems is something you love to do.

So why come in here and say that youve spent all this time to upgrade youre 2.8 and throw around a guesstimate, because youre too embarrassed to run your car, and bash someone else whos has done the same--->put time and effort into their car. But at least Dave has the ***** to run his car, whether he gets 10s or not.
