Rebuilding an Engine

hey i was reading in my haynes manuel that when u do engine work with the engine in the car you need to keep compression on the valves or something, by either putting a spargplug attathcment into one of theplugs and an air compressor or stuffing copper wire into the whole so it doesnt collapse. what does this mean, and if i am totally taking the engine out of the car do i need to worry about that.

also going to be rebuilding a 2.8l engine soon enough, planning to do a complete rebuild with no experience, and im just wondering what is the best method of buying parts, buy it as a whole kit, are there different kinds of kits things like that. thanks

If you're taking the valve springs off with the heads on the engine, you need to keep the valves from dropping into the cylinder.

Please do an extensive through the V6 section BEFORE you decide what parts you are going to buy and what engine you'll rebuild.

You will spend hours and hours going through the old posts and it WILL BE WORTH IT!

You will gain lots of valuable knowledge and learn from other people's experiences before making some of the most common mistakes.

Here's a free one: If your car runs and drives now, DON'T MESS WITH IT YET!! I am a firm believer that there is NO substitute for experience. You should buy an engine stand first. Then buy a USED running engine from a wrecking yard that is COMPLETE. Then, use your manual and tear it down and rebuild it. After your first rebuild you can put it in your car and test it out. If it all goes wrong, you can put your old engine back in and then start over.

Take it slow and don't get in a hurry and you'll be fine.

You'll be dreaming of street races in no time...

You only need to worry about it if you're removing the valve springs while the heads are still on the engine.
