Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

are you on a budget or do you want something new? is the motor stock or are you going to modify it? i had a 600 cfm on my 305 in my 85 ta, she ran like a sweetheart, it was the 4 bbl quadrajet, can be had very cheap these days.

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

well it's all stock...and i'm not trying to race or anything it might end up being a semi-daily driver since i only live like 2min. from work...but i want good but i'm also gonna paint the car so i know that's gonna take a good amount of funds??? the guy that's putting it in says it be easier to make it a carb just so that i wouldn't have to worry about changing out the computer, not only that he'll charge me less to make it carb than to keep it a tbi

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

yeah id say a good 600 cfm carb should do, im not exactly sure what my quadrajet was 600 or 660 on a mostly stock 305. every company makes a good carb. but someone here will bash this company and someone else will back that one. ive always had goodluck with edelbrocks, most of the time they bolt right on with no tuning and run nice. holley makes a good carb too, had that on a 302 in my boat. so search around new and used, and try to find something in the 600-650 range, anything more will be too much. im partial to edelbrock though.
----------
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/EDELB...02915696QQrdZ1 few rebuilts on ebay, heres one, you will probably want electric choke though, search ebay, i saw a used 600 rebuilt with ec for 200.

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

well the cfm is the size (flow) of the carb. they go anywhere from 3 something, to like 850 and higher. alright, well in your case, i would go to the speed shop and tell them what your doing. make sure you get a 4 barrel carb first off, or you will kick yourself in the a$$, 2 barrels are out of the question.
tell them your setup, see what they recommend. you would need a 600 cfm carb, 4 barrel, and electric choke. manual choke can be a PITA, you should get a nice intake manifold to match the carb, try to stick with the same company, edelbrock has nice kits made to function with one another. intake manifold gasket, carb base gasket, some kind of air cleaner, id personally buy a 14 inch k&n air cleaner with a 3 inch element (AIR FILTER) if you can fit it, if not 2 is ok.

keep this in mind, go on jegs or summit, edelbrock makes kits for your 305. carb, manifold, cam, lifters and springs, for a good price, check it out. sorry if i confused you.

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

and if your car was a 2.8 you will need to do something with the fuel, a regulator or something, because a fuel injected motor runs on a lot more fuel pressure than a carb motor needs, sounds like a lot but it really isnt. you could also leave this to the mechanic.

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

yeah he mentioned the fuel and said it wouldn't be a problem and that i just need to focus on getting the intake and carb that i wanted...that sounds good and i'm probably gonna go with edelbrock it's just when i was looking at the websites i was getting confused with what would fit and what i needed...thanks a million....

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

Guys I really wanna say thanks again... ........out of the 91 views my post has on the T.B.I board i've only gotten one reply saying that the engine is crap and that i should go and get a 350tpi...

well i actually got the engine and trans for 250 off of my mechanic's cousin...he had the car forever and would really only use it to go to work which was like 5min. away...he offered it to me and i figured for the price i'm getting the complete set up i had to take it...anyway i've got it now and now i gotta make the most of it...so once again guys thanks for the input you guys rock...

Re: i'm taking out my 2.8

If ya end up swaping fans or running better id needs one off a 6 or 8. Just really need the plastic parts. The motors unbolts / screws, when ya go to buy a new one thats all they hand ya is a motor.

N E way motor can be removed to save weight if ya end up with extra one.

Catch them on a good day and your question about speakers will turn into why a V6 sucks and to save the money for a real V8.

They would raze ya on your 2.8 to atleast get a 305, but now ya got one they still think its dumb to do anything but get a cheby 350, get one and then you gotta stroke it or your still dumb, then to really be a big dog ya gotta go BB.

yea its hard to find love at times in the other sections here.
