I used a high mileage oil (valvoline in the red bottle) in my pontiac 600le - it made red sludge and grime come out of my oil pan. And looking down inton the oil fill hole at the cams - they were nasty too! After just one oil change with that stuff. I would stay away from it. I use 1 pint of lucas in my 3.1 with 3.5 quarts of Royal Purple. But Lucas Oil stabilizer mixes well with mineral oil too. IF you want to see why I use royal purple, check out thier websire. They magnify a stock piston surface to microscopic levels, they have one with 75k - not pretty, very rough. One that's spankin new - better but still not great - and one that has had 1 oil change with RP - and it looks better and smoothe than the new one! I have to admit, I do feel a difference with the royal purple. Before I used it I had sad compression. Now my car feels like it has a new set of pistons, and I only changed the oil ') - just try it for yourself -you won't be sorry. - nate

 

Well i bought the 10w-30 Mobile 5000 and some of the Lucas oil additive. Ill be trying it out today once i get to work. Figure i go in an hour early and service her before i start working on nasty azz customer cars.

 

ok i read about halfway through this post and got sick of all the "well ive seen this or that". yes there are random circumstances where some things do happen but overall, you need to change your oil. you cant just let it go. every story that has been told about a car going over 100k w/o an oil change, im sure theres some one out there who can tell one who saw a brand new car that didnt make it 15k before the engine puked out. in my experience ive seen both, so i wont argue either side. what i will say is, just do it every 3-5k. its not that much money, dont try to be that one big guy who "never had to change his oil" or whatever. wether you wanna admit it or not, everyone knows that fluids do eventually get dirty and needs to be changed, whether its oil, coolant, trans, brake, p/s, whatever. and i know some have different intervals than others, but they all do need to be changed. theres no point in getting into all of this, just google all of it for more infor, ive said enough, finally, lol

 

Just to prove your point...I put a motor in a 2005 Tacoma because it broke a rod at 34K miles. It came into the shop for a simple service just like the customer does at 3000 mile intervals and as he was driving away BAM, right through the oil pan, dumped 5 quarts of brand new oil out onto the driveway. There was nothing wrong with how the oil change was done nor in the previous servicing, it was just a freak of nature.

 

i use mobil 1 synthetic 10w-30 all year round (texas) and i have no problems, i can still hotrod it and spin the tire (haha) great

 

I use Valvoline max life only and change every 2,500 to 2,800 miles. and use the percolator filter

I change the the ATF every 3 years

Change anti freeze every other spring

Change rear end fluid every 4 or if it needs it (mi)

rotate the tires never


I use valvoline max life full synthetic in my dad's car and it just rolled over 185,000 miles. Only good though if you use it from the beginning.

 

RP is some of the best oil out there, but I don't use it . Valvoline 10w30 & fram filter every 3 mos and I've never had a problem, but I'm going to use delco's now. Someone mentioned they heard that engine restore doesn't work, I've had great results with it. When I got my 'maro cylinders 2 & 5 were at ~130 psi, put in some restore and noticed an immediate difference. After following their proceedure psi was up to 150 & 160 and running -much- smoother. I've done the same to customer's cars and had good results too.

I'm blown away by what people do to their cars sometimes. One lady brought in an '90 cavalier for an oil change, I popped the drain plug and a quart of black chunkey molasses oozed out. WTF? How this thing was still running was beyond me. Peeked in the valvecover to see if the rockers still existed and all I could see was black. I showed her what the poor thing vomited up and she just laughed. People must think cars can fix themselves or something .

 

not changing your oil is like slowly taking away oxygen from a fire, eventually its gonna die. ive also heard a couple other comparisons but i would get banned for saying them FO SHO, lol.
