ok , so I was outside with my father inlaw and i decide to show him that my car actually does work ( my whole family thinks it doesnt run hahah ) so i start the car and exit to check the sound at the rear and then up to the front to hear that damn loud sucking of air ever since i gutted the air boxes...sounds like a hoover sucking....anyway so i'm outside of the car , and the things starts to slowly rev up ....i look over at steven he's got this look on his face like...i knew it didnt run ....so i get in and see the tach bar going up and hear the engine reving higher and higher...it was still warming up so it was around 1100 or so rpm...then climbs up to almost 3000...without my foot on the gas....i was outside the car !!!...so i give it some gas a few times and it drops down to 900 something rpm and it stopped....

what just happened ?

 

Sounds like something with the IAC would be my guess. You might want to clean out the passages in your TB and the tip of the IAC.

 

id also look for any vacuum leaks. if youve got this major sucking sound, it sounds like theres a vacuum leak. check all your hoses, intake gaskets, vacuum lines, etc.

 

i dont think the sucking sound is comming from a gutted air box. most likeley a vaccum leak. you can get some car and choke cleaner and spray it around the throttle body and the intake while the car is running and if it spikes up on its own you know you got a vaccum leak. other wise inspect all the vaccum lines.

 

clean your tb as i just took mine apart yesterday and was shocked at the amount of crap in there on a 75k car, i just used wd40 and an old rag, works great and its harmless. but im betting its a vaccum leak, make sure your brake booster vac line from the rear of the plenum is connected properly, its thats off or loose, you get a tornado like suction sound and the only way the car will run is at higher rpms.

 

Cleaning your TB is a good idea...but using WD-40 i think is a bad idea...just use a TB cleaner (not carb clearner)... it has to O2 safe...

 

wellll maybe so, but my choices were that or carb cleaner, and ive noticed nothin but good things since, it even lubricates the moving parts as you clean, what more can u ask for?
